    mc2hill got a reaction from Aaron@P2PQD in A couple of late 60's Chevy's
A few weeks ago we were at a cookout with family and friends.  My brother-in-law and a friend of his mentioned they had a big car show coming up and they wanted their cars 'freshened up'.

I started with the 1969 Nova.  Yes it is a 4 door, which makes finding parts a big pain.  When I saw this car on the rotisserie (with a 'Swiss cheese' floor) I wondered why he did not make it a 2 door.  The answer to that is in the pictures below!

This car has not been washed with a hose since it came back from the painter, and I did not want to use one either.

I took the no-hose mentality with the wheels too - here is my wheel cleaning arsenal:
Adam's Car Wash (pre-mixed at 1oz. to 2 gal.) with a foaming sprayer, Adam's APC, Adam;s Fender, Wheel, and Tire brushes, and a 1/2 gallon pump-up sprayer filled with Adam's Rinseless Wash at wash strength (1 oz. to 2 gallons).

I sprayed the tires with APC and scrubbed them with the Tire brush, then foamed the wheels with the Car Wash and cleaned them with the Wheel brush.  Then I rinsed the wheels and tires with the pump-up sprayer, until the water ran clean.  Then I used APC and the fender brush to clean the fender lips.

    Before

    Cleaned

Finally I applied BG to the wheels and SVRT to the tires

After the wheels were completed, we moved the car into the garage and I did a Rinseless wash.  After it was clean I put down BG, followed by a coat of Americana.  I did a wipe down on the interior with TID.

He built this car himself, using a motor he had for a different project.  He cleaned up the holes in body and frame, and did the body work on the doors.  He does upholstery for a living, so he went all out on the 09 Dodge Charger interior he put in the car.  And here are the pictures of the car.

And the part that took him so much time:

    And the interior:

Next was the 1968 Chevelle.  It was about to rain when I arrived at his house, so I quickly did the wheels using the same method I used on the Nova, then pulled it in the garage for the wash, BG, and Americana.  Due to the rain I could not get any pics, but here is the car after the last time I did it.

It did have a little discoloration on the rear bumper from exhaust.  I used MP #1 and #2 to remove it, and looked much better.

You may want to look into Adam's Rinseless Wash to aid in the water conservation.  Only 4 to 5 gallons of water for a sparkling, swirl free car!

Dont quote me, but I don't think the WW has any gloss enhancers in it, as opposed to the DS. Im pretty sure the Rinseless Wash has some polymer protection and gloss enhancers but maybe one of the more experienced guys here can chime in and give a definitive answer

That's the GDWM, Garry Dean Wash Method.

That is how most of us "pros" do rinseless washing, and is the absolutely safe way to do traditional wash.  I still wish that Adam's would change the directions on Rinseless instead of saying to use a Double soft and buckets with grit guards, I wish they would recommend multiple Borderless Blues and/or Single Softs and just one bucket and to flip a towel until it is soiled, and then set to the side and launder.

The key benefit is that you are never introducing old dirt to new dirt on the paint, and its safer than even a 2 bucket method with 2 mitts and 2 grit guards.

Here is his video of the GDWM in action on a traditional wash with soap, he pre-foams the car which only uses about 2 gallons of water, then soaks his towels in a gallon of sudsy water, and gives a final rinse.  I think he said a total of 7 gallons is used approximately.  If you do a pre-soak with foam, its an even better way to wash.

Adam's Rinseless Wash is the solution to not having a hose.  Fill up the buckets in the tub/sink and carry them to where the car is.  Wash a panel at a time.  Heck, even clay a panel at a time, then rinse off the clay residue with the Rinseless solution.

I know several detailers that wash and wax/seal a panel at a time when using rinseless products.

Thought I would share this with everybody here.  Local outdoor equipment company has some quality equipment that they make right in store.  Which means Made in the USA.  I have one of their Springbar tents and love the thing.  Bomb proof and holds up well to serious wind and weather.

mc2hill reacted to Beemer in My daughter is on "The Voice"!
Things didn't really take off after the show like she had hoped.  She's done a couple of shows and was part of a Voice "reunion" in Corpus Christi earlier this summer (which was fantastic) but it's a pretty tough way to make a living.

She has a small but loyal online following and puts out self-produced music and vids from time to time.  She has some LA producers interested in recording her but it's tough without a lot of cash.

Look her up on FACEBOOK and YouTube (Sam Behymer).  You can purchase her music at SAMBEHYMER.COM.

She's gonna keep plugging away as long as she can....   Thanks for the interest.

My son helps me with mine and my wife's cars any time I do anything to them. He decided that it was time to do what we could with his ride!

We started with a wash to get off all the dirt and road grime. We used some detail spray to help with drying. Once it was dried we moved on to some Revive Polish to help bring out the shine. After we used Brilliant Glaze and trimmed all rubber and plastic with Super VRT.

The pictures are arranged before, during, and after the detail.

You may have to re-clay again.  Sometimes your finish can have some heavier bonded contaminants that a 'simple' claying wont' handle.

Try it again, work the areas a little longer, and perhaps give the clay a little more pressure.  (use plenty of clay lube!)

Try one area like this as a 'test spot' and then do the baggie test.  Then proceed.

Let us know how you make out!

Thank you again to all who responded to my questions this week. I spent Saturday afternoon washing my car, using Adams paint finishing polish and finishing with Adams Buttery wax. Let me tell you, my Arctic Silver 911 looks better than it ever did using Zymol by hand. The combination of the PC and the Adams products really makes the paint pop.

I sincerely appreciate everyone's guidance with this process. This was about as simple as it gets once I got the hang of it and knew that the PC could in no way damage my clear coat or paint. Adams products are simply the finest I have used to date!!! Two thumbs up for Adams!!!

Yes they are, but they are fantastic footwear for detailing in warm weather!  The closed toes are safer than sandals, and the holes allow for a squirt of water into the shoe to cool your feet.  And as Dan said, they are perfect around water, so no worries when washing the car or even wetsanding.  I picked a pair of yellow ones on closeout at a Hallmark store for $8 several years ago, but I do not wear them beyond the end of the driveway!.

mc2hill reacted to cfiiman in A situation that made me really appreciate Adam's...
I've been an avid user of Adam's Buttery Wax for years and it is still the easiest wax I've ever used.  So like most detail junkies, I branched out and recently picked up a very expensive wax from another online company and did a small test area, and to me it didn't even begin to live up at all to the huge claims it makes, and certainly no better than my old faithful Adam's wax.  Obviously this is a subjective area but with the exorbitant cost I feel like it should have been a lot better is all, guess I got caught up in the hype.  So I sent an email and asked about any satisfaction guarantee and was told I used it I bought it and I should have purchased the same companies "prep" product even though my paint is flawless and was prepped just not with their's.  Ok that's fine, but this made me really appreciate how Adam's stands behind their products, even though I've never had to take them up on it, so thanks Adams for caring about your customers "experience" with your products, and not trying to sell them something else if they ever have an issue with anything
