To really get down and polish glass you have to buy cerium oxide and it's a mess to work with. I would do what I could to get decent results without going that way. I usually glass the glass and use a compound with a microfiber pad and then seal it and it always works great.
Since I first used the glass cleaner I have loved it. I too have used stoners glass cleaner for quite a while and thought it was easy to use until I tried this. I got a half liter kwazar bottle and one 16oz bottle of glass cleaner and now I know I'm going to have to order a gallon of it.
I'm the same way you are as I only deep clean the wheels every couple of months. In the mean time I use normally a waterless wash or just the car shampoo in a bucket. The deep wheel cleaner is a really good cleaner and I only like to bring it out when I'm doing a really neglected set of wheels
