  1. If I were on that side of PA, I'd accept! With many thanks! And pie. Maybe cookies... Happy Thanksgiving!
  2. BG - that's positively Brilliant, Not-Rich! 😂 OK, we'll give it a go. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for a few more days. Thanks, everyone. Have a great holiday!
  3. I know, right???!!!! I tried a sort of pre-wash by spraying it with a solution of the rinseless wash, let that work a bit, then washed it down with a bucket of suds using the regular car shampoo. I followed with the usual two-bucket wash with fresh buckets of wash and rinse water. I can still feel a lot of particulates, don't even need the plastic bag, which is why I was concerned about claying. But as Chops1sc rightly points out, claying scratches no matter what, so I'll proceed with that. Rich - Would the Strip Wash help at all? I'm thinking that stone dust particles may be trapped under older layers of product like Detail Spray and H2OG&G, and wondering if Strip Wash would loosen the products and make it easier to catch the particles with clay.
  4. The road that I live on is also home to a stone quarry/concrete plant. It's not a huge facility but it is busy. Because of the trucks running in and out all day long, the road has a thick coating of stone dust for about a mile in either direction. I can't always avoid driving that stretch of road; consequently, the car has accumulated a coating of stone dust that doesn't come off with washing. Claying seems to be the way to attack it but I'm a little hesitant to just dive in and start scraping what are essentially tiny rocks against the surface. Any suggestions on how to float stone dust off the surface or a particular claying technique that might help minimize scratching?
  5. Ditto on the grrrrrrs and uggghs. The coupe has been tucked away in the garage but the Clubman is the commuting car and takes the brunt of the mess. We've done a couple of runs through the car wash followed by a rinseless wash but it really is pointless. Even when the roads are dry, there's a thick coat of dried salt that comes up as fine dust and coats everything just as badly as when it's wet. I took advantage of the warm weather yesterday to do a decent wash and G&G treatment. Heading into Philly tomorrow with rain and snow predicted so the shine won't last long but I'll take satisfaction knowing there's protection underneath the yuck. There...now I feel better having shared my pain!
  6. Agreed on the MRB but another trick that I use is the occasional wash with white vinegar. I do this as a second wash, so once through with MRB and hot water then again right away with about a cup of white vinegar (no detergent at all) and warm or cool water. It seems to clean out any residual chemicals and brightens and softens the towels. I don't do it often, maybe once or twice a season.
  7. Slap the nice soapy wash pad on top of the aerodynamically sloped roof. Watch the nice soapy wash pad slide neatly off the other side of the aerodynamically sloped roof and into the wet gravel and dirt driveway below. Curse colorfully, get the other wash pad.
  8. On the advice of my MINI performance guy, I replaced the OEM pads with Hawk HPS front and rear. Excellent braking on the street and the track and not much more expensive than the OEMs. I also put slotted rotors on the front brakes (still have stock calipers) and that combination cut down on dust substantially. Don't know if Hawk works for your STI but if they do, it's one to consider.
  9. Agreed! I'd like to say it's all part of the learning curve but I do seem to be learning a lot
  10. Better late than never to praise new products (new to me, that is). I did a polish and seal on the coupe a little over a month ago that included my new Swirl Killer MINI and the 2-step correcting polish. I know the polish has been out a while but this was my first opportunity to try it. I used the Cyclo on the larger panels, like the roof and doors. The SKM was perfect for the A-panel, which is narrow and irregularly shaped, as well as the wing (narrow and concave) and the trunk ledge (always a mess from daily use). When I first picked up the SKM, it seemed heavier than I expected but in operation, it was quite easy to control and get the right pressure. This was especially true in awkward spots like along the bottom edges of the door panel where the Cyclo works but is harder to keep flat and at the correct pressure. The SKM with the single pad and two-hand operation is just about perfect for those areas. I really like the 2-step polish. I was able to achieve that desired results with the finishing polish and only had to use the correcting polish on a few stubborn areas. No dust problem at all. I was also more careful to not over-load the pads this time but still, easy peasey. I also got one of the new ultra-plush drying towels. Hooo-Wheee - talk about delivering as promised! It's big enough to fit over the car so I dried the roof, hood, and door panels in two swipes each. I don't think it took more than 90 seconds to get most of the water off. Then I went over it with the Sidekick to finish the cracks and crevices. Needless to say, I just ordered a two-pack. So, a little late, but still a sincere Thanks to Adams for such great products. Keep 'em coming!
  11. I love this thread! Drop the clay...CHECK Drop the towel(s)...CHECK Run out of extension cord...CHECK Bash the LED lamp holder into the car whilst polishing...CHECK Drop the bottle of detail spray...CHECK I should never be allowed near my car or any detail product again...CHECK
  12. I'm going out of town next week and the hubby wanted to shine up the MINI while I was away (translation: he wants to steal my parking spot in the garage...). We're low on some products so I called on Wednesday, spoke to Ryan, explained my dilemma and could I PLEASE get everything by Friday???? Got the order settled then called back about 15 minutes later to add a non-urgent item to the order, and it was already boxed up and ready to ship! Arrived Friday as promised, around 3:00 pm which was earlier than expected. Big big Thanks to Ryan and the whole Adams team. You guys are the best!
  13. Do you always use straight 70% IPA or do ever use an alcohol-water mix?
  14. Quick question: I haven't tried layering Americana over G&G before but wanted to try it today. Is there any wait time after G&G or can I apply the wax right away?
  15. I thought of doing that. I'm traveling with a colleague so my schedule isn't entirely my own but if the opportunity presents itself, I'll do that!
