suke
4" focus pads, SHR, and FMP. Nothing super special. Lexus paint is similar to Honda. Nice and soft an easy to correct.

suke
All cleaned up and ready for the 72° weather tomorrow. First time driving it since it got smacked in the nose by something getting kicked up in the road. Waiting for the body shop I go to for an opening to get me in and have it fixed. She sure doesn't look like she has 100k miles.

Yeah I wish I could ride her. I've been delaying putting her up for sale. I'll sure miss her when she goes. We've had a good 25k miles together. suke
Not really a car, but figured I'd just keep it in my thread. What I'm workin on......er just finished now. 2006 CBR1000rr Parts of it was just painted. So for those parts I was just buffing out the sanding scratches. Buffed the tank as good as I could get. Still some scratches, but nothing that would come out with buffing. Would have to wet sand those. Buffed out the windscreen as well. Still some minor scratches in that as well, but it's worlds better now. It looks damn good, but didn't look terrible before I started on it. Prolly had about 8 hours or so in it. Before. You can see some misc. scratches and shiz on this panel that hasn't been painted you can see the wetsanding scratches here. Same here Can see the swirls in the windscreen After No more scratches Tank came out ok. Scratches gone Now some sun pics Flawless paint. No sanding scratches, nothin. Looks gorgeous. No more sanding scratches here either.
suke
more testing with the flex. I'd say I've got it just about down now. I have some better pics, but haven't uploaded them. So for now I'll just post up the cell phone pics. Don't have any before since I had to get this car done in under 5 hours. Some how I managed to get it washed, clayed, polished, and a quick layer of quick sealant in that time. It's a 2011 accord that she's wanting to sell. It was already quite swirled up, and had some minor scratches. The flex took all of it out using FMP and revive on the white pad. So far I'm REALLY impressed with the flex pads. They seem to stand up to more abuse than the PC pads did.
DaveVY
Looks great! The Flex really grows on you after a bit... How much less time do you need to polish paint now with the Flex (vs the PC)? 1/3 less time? 1/2 less time? I have found it to be roughly 1/2 but still know I have room to improve. I would have to guess right now it would take me 1/3 less time. Although I haven't done a detail using SHR. So I don't really have an apples to apples comparison yet. Should have one of those this weekend.
suke
Finally putting up the higher res pics of the Honda. It was traded in today for a 3.28 BMW sedan. Why, I have no idea. And the before and afters of getting ahold of my TSX engine. That's 170k worth of never being cleaned. I'm actually not a fan of detailing engines often. So once every 5 or so years is good enough for me. Not a fan of introducing water in places it shouldn't go. Also something I won't offer to a customer unless it's 1) A show car 2) they request it. Before. After Also got my s2000 back from the body shop today. Something popped up in the road and hit the bumper. Chipped it pretty bad, so got that painted up. Just a quick clean before she's back in the garage. Pearl yellow looking good in the sun. Edited March 16, 2012 by suke
J Tegeler
that CBR looks nice! you use the 4" pads on it? I need to get this done to my R6
suke
that CBR looks nice! you use the 4" pads on it? I need to get this done to my R6 Yup, just the focus pads. Every bike I've come in contact with has had hella super soft paint/clear. So I'd start with FMP first, and if that doesn't work bump up to SHR. The sanding scratches I had to use the SHR on the CBR, but the ducati was able to get most everything out with just FMP.
J Tegeler
thanks for the tip. I will throw on the 4" FMP pad on sunday I think and get the tank and wind screan back in to shape
suke
thanks for the tip. I will throw on the 4" FMP pad on sunday I think and get the tank and wind screan back in to shape Tank seems to be a little harder than the plastics, guessing due to the necessity of flexibility in plastic. So MAY have to switch to SHR faster, than you would on the rest of the bike. Windscreen should polish perfectly with FMP.
J Tegeler
the front end of the bike takes a beating in the summer with all the bug guts on it. the tank is in pretty good shape but I know a little bit of Adams love and it will look better than new
suke
I know whatcha mean. I couldn't take any kind of buffing machine near my 636. It's a flat paint, any kind of buffing and it would be glossy.
camaro
nice job - thought you marred the paint on an after shot on the s2k....nope, my computer screen is dirty :/ LOL
suke
nice job - thought you marred the paint on an after shot on the s2k....nope, my computer screen is dirty :/ LOL hah, there are still quite a few panels that need to be wetsanded. The front wings do, so they're not near as reflective as the hood or the rest of the car. I'll get around to it one of these days. Now that it's getting to convertible weather it's harder to have it down for several days at a time.
suke
Detailing has been a little slow, like it always is during pollen season. So I had some free time to work on my own car some. Pulled off all the wheels and cleaned up the suspension and wheel wells. As well as the wheels. Then put her to bed for the rest of pollen season. After I washed her before I covered her I noticed a haze on the hood. Didn't have any time to inspect what was going on. I've been testing out a new carnuba, and thought maybe it was interacting negatively with the Adams quick sealant that I used recently on the hood. Found out it was just a REALLY fine layer of residue that was only visible underneath the garage lights. Looks good now. suke
Next up. 2012 VW Passat. It was swirled up from the dealer installed swirls, and some other more rough spots. All in all it wasn't terrible, but definitely in need of a good correction. Being a plain black you could see all the defects, so off to perfcection! Or as close as you can get. All swirls are gone, and only minor imperfections left. There were some spots on the A pillar as well as driver side handles that wouldn't buff out. Looked like when it came off the assembly line where they have those baby buffing wheels and went to town on some spots. Wouldn't even buff out with the flex. So guessing it's down in there. Anywho on to the pics. What it takes to get the job done. Swirls can't hide from the flash Before pic. Looks good from far away. Even a 2012 needs to be clayed. Halogens picking up the swirls in progress Done all the way up to machine super sealant Complete Flash doesn't lie polished up exhaust tip Spotless cleaned and sealed wheel and wheel barrel. Quick clean and shine of the motor. Now that my friends is how a new 2012 car should be delivered. Not swirled to all hell. suke
thanks man. There are folks MUCH better than me. I'm actually pretty disappointed in the VW results. Did some deep looking today with a flashlight and see some baby holograms and swirls. Not sure if they'll even show in the sun, but I could see em deep down in there. He just picked up his car and loved it. I guess in reality that's all that should matter.
suke
What I'm working on now. BMW 330CI. Man this thing is in ROUGH shape. Basically what a car looks like after years and years of automatic car washes and calling it good. This is a work in progress and fortunately I have this all week with me. It's going to need it. Before Not sure if you can see the scratches in this pic. This stuff was BAKED on the wheels. WTF mate? Interior is BAD as well. Hopefully it'll clean up nice. This is what happens when you try and condition your seats with stuff you get at walpart stores full of silicone. Rides on top of your leather and attracts all kinds of dirt and shiz Bright work is pretty thrashed as well. Worked on it a bit this morning with metal polish 1 and 2 before after. Much better, but not perfection. It took almost 45 mins to get it to look even this good. I don't have enough time to get it perfect. 5 hours later this is what she looks like after a GOOD cleaning and clayed. Forgot I finished the engine detail on this one. J Tegeler
wow man nice work so far! Them wheels were nasty, what did you use to get teh baked on stuff off?
suke
there's alot of it still on there. I tried claying the wheels as well, and it made a small improvement but didn't remove all of it. Tried goo-gone, WD40 as well and no such luck. It's small specks so you can't see it unless you're within 3ft of the car. I'm not spending 10 hours to try and get these wheels perfect. Let's be real this isn't a show car, and never will be. I gave it everything I had, and they look remarkably better.....but no where close to perfect.
