THE Mook Posted April 30, 2013 Share Posted April 30, 2013 Morning! Recently, someone I know picked up a new 2014 SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This thing is Metallic Black, and although I am a Chevy guy...WOW, I would probably drive this! The vehicle when it showed up only had 22 miles on it, and most, if not all, of the wrapper was still there. All the seat plastic was still there, the protection wrapping on the interior metal, the pillar wrap, all of it...it was I who would be removing it and making it all look better than new. You can also see in the before pics just how abused this thing got on the truck ride to the dealer. Scratches that boggled my mind in a few spots, the new owner telling me he didn't want badging when he got it back, some exterior glue residue...I had my work cut out! In case you were wondering, that little bubble on the chin spoiler is a traffic sensor. Robots. The Hood had more than a few areas that needed my special attention. Our Prototype Polishes would be put to the test. Matt pointed out that these new breather holes in the hood would require extra protection for the paint around those areas... The Wheels and Tires With this thing only having 22 miles on it, knowing how the owner drives, and also seeing those big, gorgeous brakes, I was more than excited to use Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner, JUST to see how much Bleeding Out would happen. Products Used: Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner Adam's All Purpose Cleaner Adam's Wheel Woolies Adam's Boulder Blonde Boar's Hair Brush Adam's 20" Fender Brush Adam's Trim and Lug Brush Adam's Super VRT Tire and Trim Dressing Adam's Block Sponge The Process: I always start any detail I do with Wheels and Tires. I follow that with the Engine Bay and Exhaust Tips (if needed), then move into the Wash. I do this first because it takes longer than the actual wash if you ask me, it's the dirtiest part of the wash process, and by knocking this out ahead of time, I don't have to worry about the paint spotting up, if I attempt to hit the Wheels and Tires after the fact. I grabbed my bucket of Wheel and Tire tools, Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner and Adam's APC, and commenced to the fun! Deep Wheel Cleaner goes on to a dry wheel. (Continued...) Down the road in this detail a bit, it was time to dress the Tires. Adam's Super VRT Tire and Trim Dressing and a Block Sponge were used to accomplish this. The Wheels were touched up with Adam's NEW Formula Detail Spray and an Adam's Single Soft Towel. Eventually, I would apply Adam's Quick Sealant to them. The Engine wasn't bad at all. A quick pass was made with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner and Adam's Boulder Blonde Boar's Hair Wheel Brush, then it was hosed out. The Products: Adam's Platinum Car Wash Kit... Adam's Commercial Grade Car Wash 50' Hose Adam's Firehose Nozzle/Shut Off Valve Combo Adam's Car Shampoo Adam's All Purpose Cleaner Adam's Boulder Blonde Boar's Hair Wheel Brush Adam's AirForce Master Blaster Car Dryer by MetroVac How can I NOT use the Foam Cannon when the Jeep was that dirty?! Seeing all those suds was making me thirsty. After administering a Proper Two Bucket Wash, using the 11"x11" Wash Pad for the Upper 2/3, and the 9"x9" Wash Pad for the lower 1/3 of the Jeep, I rinsed it off, and began to dry it. THE Mook Posted May 2, 2013 Author Share Posted May 2, 2013 Scuff on the hood was worse than I thought. Glass wasn't even a month old, and LOOK at those Hard Water Stains. The Entire Moon Roof, Sun Roof, Movie Theatre Size Glass Roof, whatever you call it, was covered in these. I attempted briefly to hit this with SHR and the Focus Pad. Just wasn't cutting it. So then, what DID I do? I grabbed some .0000 Steel Wool and the Isopropyl Alcohol, and went to work. They all came out eventually. This is a trick I have used for years, as my family owns a glass business. Use at you're own risk. I was also at task with removing the pesky Dealer Glass Stickers. Same process. I took this opportunity also to dress the Engine and all other Trim Pieces, either with Adam's Super VRT Tire and Trim Dressing, or Adam's In and Out Spray. THE Mook Posted May 2, 2013 Author Share Posted May 2, 2013 I was asked to De-Badge the Jeep and I figured the best time to do that would be pre-clay. I used a heat gun and a plastic razor blade, and EXTREME caution doing this. I didn't feel like paying to have anything re-painted. Most of my pics here are on the front J E E P badge. (Pre-Wash) Once the Badge was removed, I used a Cordless Drill, some prototype pads, and our prototype polish to clean up the area before I moved into polishing the hood. THE Mook Posted May 2, 2013 Author Share Posted May 2, 2013 I didn't get a whole lot of Action Shots if you will during polish. I put in a LOT of hours on this getting it PERFECT for the owner. Here are some side by sides of the stuff I recovered. This is that scuffing on the upper middle part of the hood. This is after ONE pass of the Prototype Correcting Polish on the Flex 3401. GONE. This is the scratch up near the A Pillar Passenger Side, on the Hood. GONE. Top of Rear Spoiler. GONE. I spent a good two hours walking the Jeep, and knocking out all the little things like the above. They were in a lot of places. The Rear Fender, the Door Sill Plates...but mainly on the hood. Once they were done, I gave the Jeep the rest of the proper Clay and Polish. The Jeep did need Clay. Here is a shot clean out of Polish. Still needed to QS, Glaze, and Wax the Jeep. After spending the better part of a day and a half correcting blemishes and getting the paint as close to perfect as it could be, it was time for the SUPER FACEMELTER. Adam's Quick Sealant on all surfaces. Two Coats on the Hood near the Vents. Two Coats on the Wheels. Followed by Adam's Brilliant Glaze. Followed by Adam's Patriot Wax. Didn't even notice this little nugget of Awesome until I got it back into the Sun! The Engineers at Jeep really got every little detail of this thing down. My favorite sign in the Warehouse, combined with a "vonKliest of Awesome" I know Dylan took a couple shots out in the light with his fancy camera. At the time of this detail, I myself didn't have a fancy camera...NOT anymore! Going forward, my pictures hopefully will look better.
