JBlack151
1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/400 Convertible Year: 1967Make: CHEVROLETModel: CORVETTE 427/400Style: CONVERTIBLEExterior Color: TUXEDO BLACK - RED STINGER HOODInterior Color: REDHonestly, where do I start with this one?!?! Let me bring you back to late June when I was working on the Supercharged Suburban detail. My client stops by the "Detailing Stables" to check out the work I was completing, however there seem to be something a little more animated in his attitude when we were talking. Then it comes out, he tells me he just purchased a new classic to add to his collection. The car was originally purchased in New Jersey and shortly after it was relocated down to Florida where it lived it's life and was rarely driven. Now fast forward to last year in 2012 when my client hears about a rare all numbers matching original Corvette with working factory air conditioning for sale. The car was restored about 8 years ago and was kept all original except for convertible top and then repainted. Unfortunately the price was not agreeable and the owner was apparently not going to budge too much. Then spring of 2013 rolls around and the owner decides he needs to let the Corvette go and contacts my client again to revitalize the negotiations. Well I guess things worked out for both of them or maybe just my client, since he tells me about this rare American classic that is being loaded on a transporter and headed up to Connecticut in a few days.I couldn't wait for this car to arrive myself. Just so much beauty and history around this car. My client expresses to me that before he even takes it for a drive he wants me to lay down some Adam's Polishes on it to make it look proper. Well I couldn't have been more honored with such a task. The Corvette arrived on July 3rd and I was busy on the Ford F-350 Super Duty detail, however I knew I had to proceed immediately to inspect this car for myself when I could. So as I pulled into the driveway, there in the garage was this drop dead sexy black convertible Corvette. With my Project Patriot wax just arriving and America's birthday just hours ahead I felt it was only right to detail this Corvette the morning of the 4th of July and complete it on the following day before it debuts at the weekly cruise night in our area. You don't want to cause damage to emblems, paint, convertible tops and water leaking into the interior when using a pressure washer or just simply a standard hose. I always make sure to inspect the areas around the windows and doors to make sure everything is sealed tight, or need to be taped off. For this Corvette, there was some gaps between the top of the glass to the convertible top that I would have allowed for water to reach the interior. A little Adam's Professional Detailer's Masking Tape would do the trick. Then it came time to focus on the wheels and tires. They were in really good condition, but also required a little time and patience to get all the spokes cleaned up just right. When it came down to washing and knowing there were some gaps that could cause concern, I avoided foaming the Corvette. Instead it would be just a good ole classic 2 Bucket Wash system with the wash pads.CLAYING - TAPE - INSPECTIONAfter getting the Vette dried off and tires dressed it was time to move her inside and begin the clay bar process to remove any and all contaminants on the paint before polishing.Up next would be the task of taping off all the emblems, stripes and any trim that may cause damage to the polishing pads or transfer polishing residues onto them, which causes unnecessary added time to clean. Then it was time to turn out the lights to inspect what I was going to be up against with the correction process. With anyone who's worked on any Corvettes, they can be tough to really get right, but with the Adam's PCP and PFP with the microfiber cutting and finishing pads I was confident. I will let everyone know that I was not only using the Rupes for this. I kept the Flex on hand as well since I find that I can achieve certain results better with each machine, and of course the PC was right there with the 4" Focus Pads to get into all the smaller and tight areas of the paint.PAINT CORRECTION POLISH & PAINT FINISHING POLISH RESULTSOverall the correction process went as expected with a black paint and on a Corvette. I only had to make two passes with PCP on certain areas of the rear end and around the hood. The rest of the panels received great results with on pass of PCP. From there one pass of PFP was put down on the entire vehicle.BRILLIANT GLAZE - PROJECT PATRIOT ULTRA PREMIUM PASTE WAXAfter the polishing process was completed and the Vette got a wipe down with some IPA, it was time to proceed with the LSP's. Up first was the always awesome Brilliant Glaze. I've mentioned before that I love to switch back and forth to applying by hand or machine. Today was by hand. I think in part to falling in love with this car I wanted to spend as much time possible getting her shined up just right. Time for some Patriot action! And a few indoors results shots to tease you with.....INTERIORDid you really think I would keep going to the outdoor results before sharing the process on the interior??? Well I'll keep it short and sweet since there wasn't much to be done with the interior on this one. All it consisted of was a vacuum and wipe down with Total Interior Detailer followed up with some Glass Cleaner. THE RESULTS....Well, after 12 hours of working on this Corvette I knew this was the one.......This was my #1 favorite vehicle I've had the pleasure of working on out of every car or truck I've completed. And some of these shots will explain my reasons.A huge THANK YOU to Adam's Polishes products and staff for providing the best car care products to make these jobs happen for me. I am truly grateful for being able to work on such amazing vehicles and they keep coming my way due to the results I'm able to achieve with Adam's products. I'm trying to get a video uploaded to add here soon. Hopefully the weather cooperates and this beauty might make an appearance tonight at another local show. But I doubt that with the current forecasts. Thanks again for all the really nice comments guys!
