Polish over Clay residual

simek3ru

Question

So I did my first Clay, hand polish with Revive and hand wax with buttery last week.

I used detail spray as the clay lube and it leaves a bunch of residual after you are done claying.  Do you remove that before polishing or just polish right over that residual?

You can polish right over it if you want.  I base it on how bad the car was.  If my clay is coming back VERY contaminated, then I'm wiping the surfaces before polishing, but if it's not that bad, you can polish through it.

I love it!  Great perspectives here...  As a guy who detailed for a living for 20+ years before getting into this biz, I must say, that I always polish right over the clay residue.  There is one exception, if the car is so trashed, that the finish is literally dirty with the contamination.  Then, I do as SSJ455 suggested above, and re-wash.
