Laid GP
The windshield on my show car has some sort of residue on the outside that won't come off with cleaners. I guess it needs to be polished. What pad/product combo should it use for this?
0 Chris@Adams
Did you try claying?
0 Laid GP
I did not. I came here before trying anything more extreme than cleaner. I will give clay a shot.
0 Ricky Bobby
I'd do clay first with glass cleaner and if that doesn't do much, least aggressive method first. Try white polish with white pad, orange polish with orange pad, and then orange polish with orange pad as most aggressive. Use 4" pads and backing plate combo when doing glass as it's much harder than paint and you need the extra oomph from the smaller polishing area. 0 DaveVY
If you are using Adams products, no need to worry about any of the polishes being too abrasive for glass. As others have said, try clay, if that doesn't get the residue off then I would use the 4" pads with any pad and polish. When cleaning glass I have my own quirky way of doing it that uses a few drops of revive and the old FMP (I am still using up my stock of the older polishes). The revive, being more of a cleanser has cleaned things up that straight polish didn't touch. Here is an old link where I showed this process and how it cleaned up some windows on a vehicle that was weekly sprayed with irrigation hard water and then allowed to bake in the Florida sun. Months of that hard water really left some disgusting windows, but it cleaned up nicely. http://www.adamsforums.com/topic/18192-water-spots-on-windows-another-success-story/?hl=%2Bwater+%2Bspots+%2Bglass I have also used, along with others here, OOOO steel wool, just be sure it is OOOO fine grade. Works wonders for removing hardened deposits on glass. Just don't use it on any glass that has a film! GerryC
0 Superdutytd
Glass is way way harder than clearcoat and even a compound isn't going to hurt it. An orange pad and the fine machine polish does seem to do a very nice job cleaning windshields.
0 cammyfive
I used a white pad on a PC with some Meguiars specific water spot remover polish and it worked very well. I'd imagine either of the Adams polishes would work equally as well or better. Afterwards, I wiped it down with white vinegar then wiped again with a light mist of Adams glass cleaner. Worked amazingly well.
0 CBlack0
I did not. I came here before trying anything more extreme than cleaner. I will give clay a shot. How did the claying work out for you? I am having the same issue.

0 LFairbanks
50/50 solution of denatured alcohol and distilled water, with 0000 steel wool. You could also try newspaper in place of the 0000 steel wool first to see if it works.
0 CaptainChet
Here is how I make a windshield disappear (so to speak). Start with dry windshield (yes, just as it is right now-do not wet the windshield) 0000 steel wool, rub entire window until it's totally super smooth. This will take awhile but the results will be amazing. Next, clay bar with Adams clay bar and some lubricant. This is just to make sure you didn't miss an area. Next, quick spray of Adams Glass Cleaner to remove any residue form the clay treatment. Next, apply Adams Glass Sealant as directed and allow to dry. Remove with a spray of Glass Cleaner. Do not try and remove this without spraying a bit of window cleaner! Step back and smile. The windshield will look new (aside from chips, dings etc) Aside from the 0000 steel wool, the most important tool is the microfiber towel you use. Without question, using the Adams Microfiber towel for windows is the ONLY way to properly clean glass. When Adam showed me this towel and the results, you will fully understand why there is absolutely no other choice! Entire process for a Corvette/Porsche size windshield, about 25 minutes. 0 ACRCAR
As others have said already try the clay and that should take care of your issue. Follow up with glass sealer and clean/wipe down with glass cleaner. Should look fantastic when done.
