scratches under door handle

Graham

Question

My car is only 18 months old, but the paint under the driver door handle is covered in small vertical grey scrathes, presumably from passes with fingers. Is this something that is likely to respond to rubbing with non-abrasive agents, or will it need a polish? It is not a place where one could reach with a machine.

Try wrapping a MF towel around the edge of an old credit card or hotel room key and cover the edge of the towel with whatever product you need to take care of the scratches and rub the area well. That works for me. And no it's not just you. Pretty much everyone with fingers and nails has run into the same thing.

I personally use the old two sided foam/sponge applicator Adams used to sell. The one in talking about has one side blue for polishing and the other orange for buffing. I apply paint correcting polish to the Orange side and I squeeze it to fit under the handle and then I rub up and down and sideways. That takes care of it.

I've been known to remove my door handles to get under there. Still have to hit it by hand, but so much more room to work without the door handle in the way. Not recommending that for every situation though. Someone elses's car I will just use a MF towel and work some correcting polish under the handle.
