Patriot Wax... What's Up With The New Tin Container?

McBoned

Question

Just got my hands on the latest version of the new Patriot Wax.  I can't wait to use it.

However, I've got to say that I'm extremely disappointed with the packaging.  Why on earth would you choose a tin too small to fit a hex pad applicator?  It makes absolutely no sense and you completely missed the mark after the first offering of the machined aluminum block.  I hope you can correct this unfortunate oversight in the future because you are doing Patriot Wax a huge disservice by making the container too small to fit anything to apply it with.  I understand trying to get the cost down to make it more affordable, but not to the point where you make it's container more difficult to use.

I can see very small annoyance with it but to me it's not that big of a deal. have you ever tried to apply a panel pot of dodo juice to a full size pickup? now that is REALLY annoying.

I suggest squeezing the hex grip to where you can fit most of it into the container or get a yellow UFO applicator to use with it if it bothers you that much.

Funny, I thought it looked a little narrow and was going to ask if a hex grip would fit in the tin but I deleted the post thinking "there's no way they would come up with a new container that did not fit the hex grip", especially because they just brought the hex grips back.

Can you post a pic showing the hex grip sitting on top of the tin so we can see how much the size difference is?

Wouldn't call it an oversight. The diameter is very much in line with many other paste waxes on the market, though people may have become spoiled by the wide mouth design and hex grips. The size is very similar, if not identical to the pots of zymol and swissvax I have.

Ever since the original $250 design was released people have begged us for a lower cost option, the way to make that happen was to go to a basic tin. I personally like the size as it's easy to hold, and the disc applicators will work just fine with it.

We can certainly look into doing a wider mouth tin, but this will very likely increase cost. Of course if you find this size/shape doesn't meet your expectations we'll happily take back the exchange for now and you can jump on a future version of we go to a different container.

Your guys input, as always, is appreciated... But try not to judge it entirely on whether or not you can fit a hex grip in it. Try it with a foam disc and see what you think.

The best shot I could get was with the tin upside down on a blue hex grip applicator.  You can get a good idea how much smaller the tin is in the picture.

I'm sure anyone who had the opportunity to use the Patriot Wax in the machined aluminum block would agree with the ease of using a hex applicator to apply it.

My point is...  Why should I be forced to use a smaller applicator than the original Patriot Wax applicator?  I didn't buy Americana, I bought Patriot Wax and I don't think a lower profile tin with an opening the size of the machined block is asking too much for a $100 container of wax.

Besides, I would imagine most of the cost of the original Patriot Wax was wrapped up in that machined aluminum block and the fact that some of the proceeds went to charity.

You'd be surprised how limited the size options are for US made tins like this... So we'd be talking custom made, a financially unrealistic proposition for our small business. The other option being a large pancake sized cookie tin style (double or more the OD of the hex grip) which would be a MUCH larger wax pour (higher cost) or a silly thin pour that would make it seem like you bought an under filled wax tin.

Your posts make it seem you are extremely upset about the size. If you truly are that disappointed let us return/refund your purchase for now and maybe in the future a version with a larger opening can be offered. Rather you have your money back and be happy than a wax you are disappointed with.

Size is a good size. Lots of other companies use similar sizes for their elite waxes and LSPs. With the amount of applicators available in the open market, it's quite ridiculous to complain about such a minuscule thing. Go have a beer dude, chill a minute.

Makes me think you have one of the original containers and want to use the applicator that came with it?  Why not just transfer the wax into your nicer old container?

That's an excellent option too. Just need to warm the tin slowly till liquid then pour into the billet pot.

or melt it out enough to pop it out and rub it like a bar of soap onto your applicator of choice. ive done this with paste waxes that ive applied by machine.

I use my hex grips with all kinds of container sizes. They fit any size and shape. Foam is flexible and can be squeezed into tighter places.

If it's that much of an inconvenience for you ask for an RMA or sell it to someone. Container size opening isn't a breaking point to me, adapt and overcome.

I'd almost rather have a smaller opening than the pad size, it allows for equal use of the product and prevents divots in the wax. Larger containers, the wax on the sides doesn't get touched once a divot starts.

I'm thrilled that the patriot wax included a foam disc along with it. Just made the deal even sweeter. Even though I already have a ton a applicator pads, the one that was included with patriot wax will be the only one used to apply it.

Most have suggested some strong recommendations. If you have a billet pot why wouldn't you use that up first, then melt the tin and pour into the billet?

If you're really that unhappy with it, I'm sure there are a bunch of us that will gladly buy it from you.

I've got $50 with your name on it for that Patriot! I could sit this right next to my other Patriot!
