You Will Never Believe This

Question

After Machine Polishing My Black, Toyota Tundra (double cab) I attempted my first wash. I threw my washing mitt, micro fiber towels in the washing machine, then pulled them out of the dryer...

Before using the mitt, by the grace of God, I noticed a large sliver of aluminum imbedded within the mitt. I pulled it out, wondered how it ever got in there, then went on with my business...

Today, I grabbed a yellow micro fiber towel... out of the corner of my eye the sun happened to reflect on additional "aluminum slivers" within the towel...

Now I'm thinking.... What the heck is going on here... Second time I could have scratched the heck out of my paint..

Well... I connected the dots in my head... figured it out...

For Christmas, my WIFE bought herself some Red winter socks... with Glitter, Shinny ALUMINUM glitter. She had washed them in the same machine as I used... (our only machine)

Moral of the story, I used a contaminated washing machine and almost ruined my paint...

For the washer you could run it empty thru a couple of wash's.  For the drier maybe throw some towels (bath towels) in there in and let it run for a while and see if it will pick up the junk left in the drier.  Or better yet, just line dry them.

That was close......one tip I might add. Don't wash your wash mit in the washer and especially don't put it in the dryer. It will cause it to get little dreadlocks and they will scratch your paint.

^Agreed, just clean out with water and APC if needed and air dry, I use a comb to smooth the fibers every 6 months or so as well.

This.

I also had an experience like this but unfortunately ended up with damage to the G8. One of the high end microfiber wax applicators I purchased elsewhere had a staple in it. I wiped the wax on to the paint below the lower grill and immediately felt something drag. I felt the finish and got nothing then looked at the applicator saw the tip of the staple. Several f bombs were dropped then I commenced to fixing the deep scratch. No one will likely ever see it lest they kneel down and hunt for it but it taught me a valuable lesson on inspecting my detailing media.

BTW: the microfiber applicator I got with BSG many moons ago is still working great, but getting a 'similar' one on the cheap coated me more than what I saved.
