Getting a hellcat need some advice

noquarter

Question

I am picking up my hellcat next week. Red with the flat black hood and rims.

I am new to adams products and need some help.

What wax would i want to use? I was thinking brilliant glaze?

Also, what works for the flat black? Manual says nothing with any wax or sheen to it.

The car will be garaged but will get a lot of use driving to work and at the drag strip.

Thanks

First of all Brilliant Glaze is not a wax.  If you're looking for wax it's hard to beat Americana unless you want to go with Patriot.

I would recommend a sealant first, though.

I'll let others chime in on the matte hood...

Brilliant Glaze is a glaze, not a wax. You'll want a sealant. Pick up Liquid Paint Sealant for 6 months+ of protection and pick up the H2O Gloss & Guard for maintenance sealing (every month or 2).

Wax is obsolete in my opinion, but if you enjoy waxing for therapy, pick up some Americana, it's one of the best waxes I've ever used. That being said I haven't waxed my car or a customer's car in over a year, sealants are the way to go in my opinion and the opinion of most professionals. While it may be true wax gives you a little more depth, it is a very very slight difference and not worth the extra time of application, especially when it lasts about a third of the time that a sealant does.

And I'll let others chime in on the matte parts.

Enjoy the new ride!!!

The first step is to bring your car to me and let me drive it with the red key. I like the way Patriot and Americana look more than the sealants. I will use a sealant for the winter because it was a pain waxing my car this winter when it was 4 degrees! I only use Patriot on my Vette, but that stays in the garage all winter.

Haha.. thanks guys.  No can do on the red key.   :)

I will post plenty of pics though!

I love detailing and want to learn more.   I think the varied list of Adams products was overwhelming.  IN the past I just

washed

clay

washed

Used a wax

But after researching Adams it appears the way to go is:

Wash

Clay

Wash

Sealant

Wax

Glaze

Is that correct?

I was thinking the Americana Shine kit with a bottle of liquid sealer to start with?

JC, I can tell you that is one really wild ride. I helped a coworker at my place do his Hellcat and show him all about Adam products. I was able to use some Waterless Wash on his underside of the hood to show him and caution him about wax products. Others on here have talked about using Liquid Sealant on the hood and rear spoiler, but I didn't do it that day. We clayed, polished, sealed and I put a coat of Patriot wax on it for him. We also took the time to jack it up, clean the wheels and seal them and paint the calipers. I showed him on my G8 how much nicer they look painted with black ceramic paint. His rotors were already starting to rust around the ring where the wheel sits up against it.
He was very excited to see how much the metal flake popped with this process.

Hell of a car! Enjoy and break it in like they tell you with the staying under 4000RPM until you get 500 miles on it. I look forward to taking him up on letting me drive it AFTER it is broken in.

Good Luck.

Congratulations! We have a Ivory White Tri-Coat Pearl Hellcat. What I did with the flat matte  black spoiler is use Adams Quick Sealant on it. I also pulled the wheels and sealed them with the Quick Sealant. Also, all the black plastic trim I sealed with the Quick Sealant. After claying the car I first used Adams Liquid Paint Sealant. After that cured I used the Patriot wax. I sealed all the window with the Glass Sealant. I used the Brilliant Glaze last week before a car show and it really brought out the metallic in the paint. I'm also a big fan of the Americana wax.

Did you get the Torred or the Redline? I do not know how to care for the hood. Is it wrapped or painted? If it's painted flat black I would try the Quick Sealant. Post pictures when you get. How can you wait until next week? Ours was at the dealer for 3 days before we could pick it up and we did not sleep much until we got it! This is a picture of ours last week after a show.

Thanks man.   I read your post earlier when I was reading up.

I have to drive it from Wisc to Ohio which is roughly exactly 500 miles so I guess it will be broken in by the time I get it home.   But I know everyone is going to bait me into a quick highway pull during the drive.... must have restraint lol.

Thor its Tor Red. The process you outlined is the way I was going to go.  Basically, wash, clay, wash, sealant, Americana, Glaze.

I am going to try the quick seal for the Hood.   I am getting aftermarket rims, because the stock 9.5s are just silly.  This car needs at minimum 305s at the back and you can't do that proper with a 9.5" rims.   I'm going full 315s on the back with a 10.5".

Love that Tri-Coat white with black rims... just works!

Wheels can literally MAKE or BREAK a car!...PERIOD!

Congrats on the new toy bud! Love the hood!!! And while muscle cars are not my first pick currently (had plenty!...now looking for my first sports car)... I still have a huge soft spot for them! Something about the rawness of the idea and the 'no apology' roar of an American V8!!

Enjoy it!

9.5" wide wheels??!?!?!!??!? This is what gets me about most of the American made cars! (Aside from then Vette and ZL1, etc).

Who at Dodge suggested 9.5" wheels for the Hellcat?? Are you kidding me!!??? It's laughable! I think Toyota Camry's have 9.5" wheels!!! LOL.

Good move on changing them ASAP.

I'm currently evaluating a Z06/7 vs a GT3. If I go Z06, it will have HRE's or Forgeline wheels with 375's out back! There's nothing meaner looking than BIG FAT MEATS out back!

I don't know where in Ohio you are located, but I am 30 miles east of Cleveland and you are always welcome to come over and we can do a number on it. Just send me a PM.

Congrats on the hellcat, on the matte stripes that are not painted, I use adam’s super VRT, for sun protection. I wipe off any excess.   Don’t forget the detail spray. love that stuff and everything at adams.

Its not a matter of they wanted to put smaller wheels on.. there are a few things at play.

1. The challenger platform is old.  I give them credit for milking every last bit of performance out of an old Mercedes platform but it has limitations.  One of them being the amount of space in the wheel wells.

2. They wanted that 200MPH moniker.  For the engineers to achieve this, they couldn't have tire sticking out of the side causing drag.  So they chose a tire that tucks and streamlines the car for max MPH.

Granted.. I will admit, I think they miss the mark because not many people care about going to 200 MPH.  These are drag strip cars through and through... Dodge should have accommodated us.   But Im sure the bean counters in Marketing said.. "But if we could get 200MPH imagine the press".

That being said, a relatively small wheel upgrade and these are high 10 second cars factory warrantied.   I just read on Modern Street Hemi, that someone just got 10.3 with a tune and a a 50 shot and posted the timeslip.   Ridiculous.

I am actually going with these Bravado Tribute 11" with 315s in the rear.  A HC owner confirmed they work and they look pretty damn good.. and very reasonably priced.   http://www.hellcat.org/threads/bravado-tribute-315-nt05s.7636/

I love me some forgeline, but after dropping 70k on the car my wife would murder me if I spent another 6k just on rims.  =0

I'm liking that black hood! How well do the 10.5" fit?

From what I read 10.5s fit fine.   So long as its a decent offset.

As stated above, you can even shoe 11's on with minor liner modifications.
