Care for brand new black F150

Bill

Question

Just ordered a new Tuxedo Black F150. Should come straight from the factory. Told the dealer not to run it through their car wash because I don't want swirls.

What will I need to do to the new paint and what are the best products to use to protect it and keep it shining? Paint sealant? Americana? H2O Guard?

I will drive it every day and store it outside.

Paint Sealant, maintain the protection with HGG.

Do a thorough 2 bucket wash when first getting it and a thorough decontamination which includes clay bar and/or a paint decon spray, before applying your Paint Sealant.

Second this. ^^ :2thumbs:  After your wash, do a "baggie test" on the paint, if it's smooth, you can skip claying.

Adam will show you this here.

Decontaminate with 1 to 1 mix of Deep Wheel Cleaner. Dylan will show you that.

I would do the second wash as he suggests as well.

Once the truck is fully dry, apply the sealant.

Follow up with HGG every 2 months

Will the Deep Wheel Cleaner work or would you recommend a certain spray? Wax?

2 bucket wash - Clay - Spray Deep Wheel Cleaner diluted 1:1 on paint to decon (if you want) - Correct Paint if it needs it or if you want to - Seal with Liquid Paint Sealant - Maintain with H2O Guard & Gloss. No need for wax, it is unnecessary at this point. If you absolutely love spending the time to apply wax than go for it, but the return is not worth the effort in my opinion - Liquid Paint Sealant and H2O Guard & Gloss are the way to go

Your choice. Wax will give you an extra layer of protection. The HGG every couple months will do the same.

It all depends on your goals.  With a daily driver that lives outside, many will just go for the protection of LPS.  But, if your goal is to have the shiniest black truck around, then adding a wax will make a difference.

The LPS is good paint protection and has a nice shine, but in my opinion, adding a layer of Americana Wax on top of the LPS will give additional depth and shine on the Tux Black Paint.

You also need to make sure that your goals and expectations align with your commitment of time and level of enjoyment in detailing.  You can't have the shiniest black truck around without working for it, but you also don't want to over-commit and end up regarding detailing as a chore, and then get burnt out and sneak off to the nearest Swirl-O-Matic car wash.

I enjoy detailing, it is a good hobby and I think the results and satisfaction I get from doing it warrant the time and money I spend on it.

Here's what I did for my Tux Black Ford, which most would consider to be on the more extreme end of the hobby.

Good luck, and post up some pics when you get your truck!

I appreciate all the help from everyone. I've been using Adams Polishes for a few years but not on anything new or nice until now.(soon)

if I use the wax can I use the HGG over it every month or so or am I stuck using the wax at that point?

You are ok to use the HGG over the wax every month or so, if you are using something like Americana.  However for the most durable paint protection just use Liquid Paint Sealant as the base and maintain it with HGG.  If you think you need more depth, then skip the HGG for a couple months and put a layer of Americana or Patriot on top.

Bill you will get a ridiculous amount of shine with those two products.

Keep in mind this is new paint and the more clear and defect free the paint is, the more shine you will obtain from your Last Step Product.  On new paint, it will be blinding, and very durable protection.
