Believe it or not, it is full every night, so make reservations. Holbrook is a pretty cool town for hanging out. I have more photos I can post up later. 694doorbird
Some of my Route 66 pictures, between Tulsa and Vinita Oklahoma... The Blue Whale was a famous swimming hole back in the day. The Gas station is an old DX station, that has been converted to a museum. My tail lights started out nice and clean. By the time we arrived here, the were dirty... Views of what's left of the original road. mc2hill
69supersport396
That was probably a fun run Mike! I did Tulsa to OKC this year, on and off Rt 66. I have to find those photos, but they are not very good. Anyone want to go Standing On The Corner In Winslow, Arizona? This shop plays non-stop Eagles tunes. Not much else going on at the corner. TheWolf
Just some random pictures from some hikes that I have done. Great photos! Is that a bull snake? Also, I think you are supposed to use cucumbers, not pickles! LFairbanks
LFairbanks
Great photos! Is that a bull snake? Also, I think you are supposed to use cucumbers, not pickles! No. He is a rattlesnake of some sort. He was big. We (brother and I) found him in the Grand Canyon. He was sunning himself in front of a small rock ledge that my brother stepped over. He almost stepped on him. After that episode, everything that moved was a potential rattlesnake. There are 6 species of rattlesnakes in the Grand Canyon. Thinking the one in the picture is a Grand Canyon pink rattlesnake. We could hear another one a couple days later down the trail, but couldn't see him. And we weren't about to go poking in the rocks to find him. As far as the pickle picture, that was kinda funny. My brother is always coming up with nutty stuff. That is him in the picture as I'm always taking pictures. Doesn't matter where I'am or whom I'am with, I'am the picture taker. Anyhow, he wanted to portray he was at the spa with a mud mask on. Brought a white towel to wrap his head in too. The place that we stayed at the night before had a restaurant that we hung out at and ate and had a drink or two, the waitress gave us pickles as she didn't have any cucumbers. That trip was a lot of fun, but hot. Five days of that last picture, and no place to hide. Up on top temps at night dropped below freezing. And got into the mid 80's during the day. Had to find our own water too. A lot of people think that you can walk to the river at any point and get water which isn't the case. I think in the 50 miles we hiked, there were 3 places that you could get to the river. Some places we couldn't drink the water unless it was life and death situation due to radioactivity. Interesting fact is that the most highly radioactive uranium ever mined in North America was pulled out of the Grand Canyon. My wife thinks the below picture is disgusting. It was a pool of water that we found in the rocks that was loaded with tad poles. This was early in the morning and we were out of water. We were drinking about 2 gallons a day each. We had a good idea where we could find water as I had done 9 months of research before this trip. This years trip kinda got scrubbed as he was hit on his motorcycle in June. He had surgery number 5 last week. I did go for a few days by myself on a trip and included a couple pictures from that trip above. Looking forward to future trips. Looking back thru these pictures last night made me look forward to getting lost again. TheWolf
Cool stories! No way I would drink water from a tadpole pool, even with a filter! Best wishes for your brother's recovery, hopefully he is back out there with you next year. LFairbanks
wely324
I'd drink that water, looks way cleaner than the lake water at my parent's house, which I've had mouthfuls of before! TheWolf

69supersport396
Loving this thread! Great stuff everyone. Back in 2008, we spent two weeks in AZ to decide whether to relocate here, or not, and to do some touristy stuff. One day, we drove to Palm Springs, CA and found the Hotel, California. We also went to Winslow and saw this happen. Two people had a bad day that day. These are photos of the former service area of the New State Motor Company in Jerome, AZ. It is now a museum. 694doorbird
One of my favorite pictures from our trip to Alaska in 2012. This is what happens when an eagle gets tired of a crow messing with it. The sea otters would come out and play every evening in the same spot right outside our rooms at the lodge. 694doorbird
You are correct. We stayed at the Alaska Saltwater Lodge. We'd stay there again if/when we go back. Took on of their whale watching tours, only 12 people on the boat!!! Edited September 16, 2015 by 694doorbird
FrozenWS6
Nice. If you make it back up here try to check out Denali National Park. There's always good wildlife to see down there. The Seward Hwy is good for seeing the Dall Sheep too. I went last summer on my first whale watching cruise after all these years here and got to see these porpoises and killer whales. 694doorbird
Those porpoises are fun to watch swimming just a head and behind the boat. I'll have to look, but I think I have some video of them chasing our boat. We did get to go to Denali!! Took the extended tour that went something like 92 miles into the park on old school busses, not a very comfortable ride. We became members of the 30% club (according to our driver), got to see Denali in all her glory without a cloud in the sky. It would be great to take a ski plane up there and just listen to the quiet. In Fairbanks we ate at Big Daddy's BBQ ( featured on diner, drive-ins and dives), home of the Northern most Southern BBQ in the country. My wife and my sister got pictures with Santa Claus in North Pole. On my bucket list for our next trip up there is Valdez, driving up to the Artic Circle, and walking under the waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier. I also have a picture of my wife holding Mayor Stubbs....
FrozenWS6
That's great you got to tour so much of Alaska so far. That's pretty far into Denali Park. I want to do that some time too. It is pretty rare to not have any clouds around Mt McKinley. Valdez has plenty of bear and fishing to keep you busy. You'll want to get the windshield insurance for the Arctic Circle drive. It's a nasty dirt road and plenty of long haul truckers flying up it. If you get a chance too, hit up Skagway. It's the beginning of the Chilkoot Trail. Which goes back to the gold rush days.
