Finally...my own garage

The last year has brought about incredible change for both my wife and myself.  We have been incredibly blessed to each the land the jobs of our dreams, I completed three grueling years of graduate school and she starts her graduate program in a few short weeks.  We have certainly worked our tails off to elevate ourselves and make one another a better as a family.  The culmination of a lot of our hard work and a whole lot of blessings paid of this week as we bought our first home!  If you had asked us a month ago if this was in the plan so soon, we would have laughed, but divine intervention, or whatever it was, took hold and we find ourselves as first time home buyers.  The house has fantastic bones and needs just a few minor updates that are easily manageable.  Even better for me (and the sanity of my wife) it comes with an incredibly spacious two car garage with a sealed floor.  No more parking outdoors in large lots, not more navigating terrible apartment garages.  It is my own.  I can't wait to make this my personal detailing studio/workshop with fresh paint, cabinetry and organization.  Looking forward to making a big Adam's order for tools and accessories I couldn't previously justify owning with an apartment.  Sorry for the long winded rant, you guys are like a big family and thought I would share!

Chas

Congrats on the first home!  I just signed a contract on my second house and I really wanted a larger garage so I could park both cars and still have room to work.  But it didn't work out that way.  The house was nice enough everywhere else that I decided to settle on the garage.  There should at least be more shade in the driveway to work in.

A big CONGRATS!!  I guess one less excuse to not detailing the rides.  LOL :D

It's so true!  Being in an apartment now I have to go down 6 floors, go into our storage unit in the basement, gather my supplies, haul them to the garage, etc.  Its a time suck.  Now I can just walk out a single door and there I am, there are the cars and my supplies, all in one place.

Ha yes the beauty of an empty new to you garage. I built my house 10 years ago and it's a 3 car and it's so nice to walk out anytime you want to enjoy what you've worked for. I say enjoy because it's a simple pleasure but it's surprising how fast a garage can fill up and what collects in there after a period of time. Congratulations on your home

Congratulations to you and the wife on the new house, and new suv.  Exciting to have a place of your own, and a garage.  If your like the rest of us here, you will quickly out grow your garage.  I remember thinking my garage was big in the beginning, Will definitely cut the size of the house in half and atleast double the garage next time.  Only stipulation that is required of me is horse property.

Like mc2hill suggested add more outlets.  Really easy to do yourself if your handy, especially with your breaker box in the garage and an open attic above.

Congrats you and Mrs Chas!

Before you get too much stuff in that garage, get an electrician in and add lots more outlets!

And whatever you do stay away from this place 'Beware all ye who enter" !

It is wayyyy too late lol  I have been stalking the forum for some time now its like an addiction.

Throwing a question out there, what are you all using to house your garden/non-garage stuff that normally ends up in a garage?  I realize at first I may have to house the mower and miscellaneous items in the garage, but down the line it would be great to have a dedicated area for yard items.  Not sure about a shed in the back (possibly), what are some other options?
