Frustrated with Total Interior Detailer

PT3

Question

Hey guys... It seems like lately my TID is coming out blotchy...specifically on my black leather dashes.

Any ideas?

I'm going to try switching out my towels my 2 primary interior towels. They haven't been washed in 2 years.

(Historically, since I never let my interior get past minor dust/prints/dried water drops/etc... I do quick wipes to my interior with light TID, approx 1-3 times a week. Mostly twice. So the towels get just a mist of TID...and by the time I'm done wiping everything down its pretty much dry...or close enough to just throw back into the bin where I keep my interior towels and detail tools. But maybe I'm getting a blotchy outcome because the towels never get cleaned...?

Could be. But I only tried TID once. And I did not use it again because on certain plastics it is uneven and/or streaks.

I used it on several types of surfaces too. Love the baby powder scent. But IMO it needs to be reformulated to leave absolutely nothing behind. Not even a hint of dressing aspect which I think is the problem.

I've loved this stuff from the very beginning and the only time I have an issue is on the rare occasion when I use it on a very hot dash board.  I've seen it streak a little but a quick mist and re-wipe takes care of it.

With regard to using clean towels, that could very well be your problem.  I wash a towel after every application of anything no matter how small the project is or how much product gets used.

Wow, that's a bummer to hear this many people are unhappy with Total Interior Detailer. I use it weekly in 2 of my vehicles with no problems. For dashboards, I do spray it into my Edgeless Utility Towel and then wipe the towel on the dashboard, and then immediately flip the towel over to a clean side and wipe again. Two sprays into the towel can usually let me wipe down half of the top-side of a dashboard.

Phil, if the towels haven't been washed in 2 years, I would strongly encourage to wash them or start with some new towels. Even if you don't let the interior get past minor dust and finger prints, 2 years or probably even 2 months of that will make a towel dirty, and then you're partially dragging that dirt and contamination back onto the surface the next time you clean.

ledger64, by all means if you're dumping the product out, please contact us for a refund or credit. We will make things right, but we need to know about it first - orders@adamspolishes.com.

I love the Interior Detailer. When I had my Raptor, everything was leather so I used the Leather and Interior Detailer. But now that I have a 4Runner with cloth seats, I use the Interior Detailer on the dash and center console and it's always worked perfect for me. I tend to use it quite heavily and have to wipe down my car at least 2-3 times a week (dogs). But I always use a fresh blue waffle towel.

I, just like Dan, have had no issue working with TID on a weekly basis with my car.  I actually don't put it on heavy but I do also use a clean MF towels and flip sides pretty often when doing the initial wipe down. Never had any issues with it streaking.  if anything my only gripe is that I wish it would leave behind more shine (I like a shiny interior as well as exterior).

Dan no worries I gave my gallon of it away and only had some of a 16oz bottle left.  Its the only Adams product that in all the years has never worked out for me.  I really tried to get it work right even making sure to wipe down with diluted apc to make sure I had a clean slate.  it just would be blotchy for me.  I have always found that leather conditioner or VRT have worked better for me.

So I spilled some TID on the driveway the other day. I washed it down with some water.

It rained today and this is what it did below! You can see exactly the outline of the spill. Interesting.... seems like its repelling the water off the concrete?

I've used it on many different manufacturers vehicles and it's never been a problem. I spray into a edgeless utility towel and wipe the dash and door panels. It smells kinda like sunscreen to me that's probably why it protects so well.

My experience with TID is that it streaks and it leaves a chalky look. I have one more bottle to go trough and I probably will discontinue using it. It wasn't even used in the VOL. 10 videos.

I think you will find on your TBSS the leather conditioner works better on the plastic.

I do this, as well. The second part is spot on. Towels are expensive. I know we're all looking for ways to save money, time, water, etc. But I wash my towels after every application - regardless of what product or type of towels I'm using. Unless, of course, I'm doing a multi-day detail. In which case, I'll accumulate.

I'm a huge believer in pre-soaking towels in APC, though.

This is definitely one of my least favorite products. I never use it anymore. It leaves streaks on glossy surfaces. So I pretty much use interior cleaner exclusively. For any smooth, shiny trim I use a plastic polish. There's nothing comparable to it. It's only one of just a couple of non-Adams products I use.
