Acronym translations

This isn't really a support request so much as a suggestion.

As I was reading the forum this morning and someone joked about creating a new acronym for the Merino mitt, I started thinking about all the ridiculous acronyms people use on here, and how people who are new to Adam's Products and/or new to detailing would have no idea what is being discussed.  I believe this probably hampers the education process for new customers.

I think you should have a sticky titled "Acronym Translations" or something akin to that in both of the following forums:

Adam's Detailing Library

General Detailing Discussions and Questions

Make it a single post entry that only the admins can edit, so that it only contains the commonly accepted acronyms and doesn't get filled up with one-offs.  You might even consider having a one-line explanation in addition to the translation.

I think this would be really helpful for new customers of yours.

I think it's a good idea but most of them are pretty easy to figure out.

I like the great white merino wash mitt, that's what adam calls it in the video. Or maybe the merino wash mitt

We might think it's easy because we are already into detailing and have seen those acronyms over and over again, and are familiar enough with the products to piece together the first letter of each word in the name.  The beginner will have none of this familiarity, though.

Even after all this time, when I see the letters LPS my first thought always goes to the lubricant company...

I agree that it could be confusing to new members but... this forum has an auto abbreviation translation (auto correct). If people use the correct abbreviations to speed up, make easier, or any other reason, when they hit the post button, the forum will automatically spell out the abbreviation. Then there will be no need for a second "translation abbreviation" sticky page.

There is a sticky thread on one of the pages that spells out all of the abbreviations that the forum auto corrects for you.

I just looked for it, and couldn't find it. Maybe I am not looking in the right place right now. Maybe one of the Adams members can fill in the link for me.

This works well...ONLY IF the correct abbreviation is typed in.

I wish it would give suggested abbreviations so that if something close is entered they desired abbreviation good then be selected.

Thats digging into the way the software is designed to work. Adam's buys the Software from IP.Board and that is not something they have implemented in their software as far as I know. It seems like it would be hard to do because it would have to be heavy in HTML5, Java or Flash. Java and Flash are on their way out for many reasons, mainly because they are system resource hogs and have huge vulnerability holes, which just leaves HTML5.

If that is a feature you are dead set on, the right place to go would be IP.Board.
