Trim coating problem?

Fubusux

Question

Need advice. I detailed a jeep with lots of plastic. Cleaned everything very well and followed the steps exactly since it was my first time using the product. Coating looked great while applying but that effect wore off very quick. It was a very very mild improvement if at all. I was pretty dissapointed. The application was very even and level in a garage early morning. The flares on it were pretty bad. I would say as bad as the f150 in Adams video and I didn't get even as close of results as Adam did. It is a 2002 wrangler. I am going to apply a second coat, but I don't think that is going to help. Any ideas?

Do you have some before and after pics? Or even current pics if you didn't take any prior.

I am trying to get some from the owner. I was hoping that the curing process would darken it. I didn't expect perfection since they were in pretty bad shape, but I did expect improvement.

Oh wow yeah that does look like the trim coating didn't do anything at all. Maybe try a second coat, and if nothing, call Adam's to help you troubleshoot. The 110% guarantee is a wonderful thing.

Had this same type of problem on some plastic trim on my wife's 2012 cherokee. The plastic trim on the roof rack was looking pretty faded. Took the rails completely off the jeep and scrubbed them down good with the prep. Looked great right after trim coating, but a few days later looks like I didn't even touch them. Had the same affect with the plastic trim around the wheel wells, not impressed so far with the trim coating, think I will stick with vrt

You might be asking a bit too much from the Trim Coating.   It looks like that fender is oxydized and faded to an extreme degree.

I believe Trim Coating was designed to keep trim that is in good shape in good shape for a long time.

There was no expectation of perfection. There was an expectectation of improvement which that did not happen. The vehicle done in the video was in bad shape and turned out beautiful.

The trim on our Volvo was hammered, but it came back really well:

The Volvo's Trim has texture, what you show on the Jeep appears completely smooth. The difference in the texture could be part of the issue. The horizontal strips that make up the grille lattice on my Dodge Magnum are very smooth. Those strips didn't take the Trim Coating as well as the Volvo's textured body cladding did, however there was a tremendous improvement to it.

Sorry, I didn't think to take a before pic of the Magnum Grille, but here it is four days and two rain storms later:

Also, on the Volvo, in regards to the prep, I scrubbed the trim with Adam's Tire & Rubber Cleaner several times while I washed the car with Strip Wash using several different brushes. I rinsed the Cleaner off the trim with water from the hose, not wipe it off dry with the provided Edgeless Utility Towel. I can't imagine the Coating Prep would be able to remove any residual Tire & Rubber Cleaner, I could be wrong, but I knew the water would remove it. Next came the Coating Prep, after the Trim was completely dry, 12 hours or more after it'd been washed, dried, and left inside the garage overnight, and I scrubbed the prep into the textured trim too. My Ceramic Coating application was done in the garage out of the sun and the vehicle was left to sit inside the garage for a second night while the Ceramic Coating was allowed to cure.

Chris, were your steps close to what I've described?

The only step I didn't follow is removing the tire and rubber cleaner with water. I did use multiple utility towels between applications of each product to ensure I removed all residue. There is black textured trim that turned out perfect so I am assuming that the coating doesn't really get along with smooth trim. I was just hoping for even a mild improvement. I did do three to four rounds of coating prep on each fender with a clean side of towel to make sure any t&r was gone.

Was the towel coming back clean during the final cleaning/prepping steps? I wonder if there was remaining oxidation which is making it unable to improve the appearance. I have had excellent results on smooth and textured trim. The last vehicle I messed around with was a Tahoe and the back bumper cover was light gray. After application, it was back to looking black.

in all the last steps besides the first few good scrubbings of tire and rubber cleaner came back clean. If it wasn't perfect I would expect some inconsistency In what it covered and what it wouldn't.

I recently did my '10 Silverado trim. It did seem to absorb the first coat, applied a second coat and now I'm not afraid to show it as a demo. Work a smaller section till you figure out what's going on.
