Headlight progress

MrRaspberryJam

Question

Been messing with these for awhile. Started by cleaning and claying the headlights then followed the step by step process with the headlight kit and there's still some "stuff" leftover. I know it's not on the inside because it still has a texture. Don't know if I need to use sandpaper?

Im 90% sure that can be polished out with the blue heavy compound, and a microfiber pad. You have to be persistent and add a little more compound, and more speed on the drill if possible. Try smaller areas and do multiple passes. IMO sanding would be overkill unless you have some deep scratches that dont come out, or you want to spray some clear coat into them.

Being careful not to overheat the lens, try doing smaller sections with high speed on the drill, and slightly slower passes. Once it starts to get hot, let it cool down for a bit or do a different section with the other pad. Let us know how it goes.

Use more product and make sure the microfiber on the pad is not matted down, you will need to brush it back up so the pad cuts effectively.

Make sure you protect those headlights afterwords with spray on clear, a ceramic coating, or at least a sealant.

On really poor condition headlights I've made much quicker progress by wet sanding first. As with polish, start with the least aggressive first, and if that doesn't fix the issues move to a more aggressive cut. Once you find the right grit to begin with you'll need to move through progressively finer grits before you start to polish out the sanding marks. I will usually finish with 3,000 grit paper before moving to polish.
