Does Wash & Wax Play Nice With VRT?

zw470

Question

So last weekend I Strip Washed my "new to me" F-150, put down some H20 G&G via the wet method, then finished it off with VRT on the tires.  It looked great, then of course it rained pretty much every day after that :(

This morning I washed her with Wash & Wax & used Detail Spray as a drying agent.  Note: I did not apply any Detail Spray to the wheels or tires, I just dried them normally.  When I went to apply the VRT I had a hell of a time getting it to turn out right.  No matter what I did it just looked streaky and tragic.

Could the protection that W&W leaves behind have interfered with the application of VRT?

Did you use Tire & Rubber Cleaner on the tires? If it's a product application issue, it could have been something already on the tire that wasn't completely removed.

We typically use Tire & Rubber cleaner before applying any tire dressings. In fact, we also have some dressings that require a wipedown with paint thinner. Clean tires are the key to a good finish regardless of the dressing being used.

That almost appears to be a scuff on the tire, not so much a blotchy spot from the VRT not playing well with the Wash-n-Wax. I would think it would be more uniform if there was a reaction between the products.

I agree that's what it looks like, but there's multiple spots like this on all 4 tires. The tires themselves are only a couple weeks old, and I didn't have this issue last week when I detailed the truck for the first time.

Not this time, but last weekend I did 3 rounds of T&RC to remove all the nasty junk the dealer put on. The foam was white as snow when I was done and the VRT went on flawlessly.
