To cover or not to cover

SS LeadFoot

Recommended Posts

So it is almost that time of year where I wash the car and put her away for the winter. I usually cover her with a car cover. We are now living in the middle of a construsction zone and the cars i the garage get dusty at the least. Should I put the cover on or leave it off? I dont want the dust/dirt to get under the cover.

I have two fleece sheets sewn together that I throw over the car before I put the cover on .  It keeps scratches off from the cover, and from anything else that I  might not have seen hidden in the cover.  You definitely want to cover your car.  Just imagine how much dust is going to get on it if you don't cover it.

Don’t be silly put the cover on your baby then go to home depot and buy a roll of painters plastic and put that over your cover to prevent the dust from getting on your cover and car. I use it all the time as you see in this picture. No dust is better than some dust.

That your garage, Joe? More importantly...you shrink-wrapped a Ferrari?! :willy:

It’s my shop, that I detail and shrink wrap cars out of, jack of all trades master of none, if you zoom in closely you can see I have a kitchen setup back there so when I cater parties for people I do it here too! Master Blaster lol.

I noticed the Ferrari first. Fridge (and presumably freezer) second, bar third. LOL! Great space, Joe.

Yes I have a freezer, pro grade fridge for big food storage and a smaller one for daily use, Wolfe cooking range, sink and the whole works. And lots of storage space, I should just sleep here lol.

Well, you do have what looks like a loft. But with soft, plush Italian leather, I'd sleep in the Ferrari...sans shrink wrap, of course.

Agreed with Jen, great space!

Thanks for all the replies. From what I gathered OCDrifter has an amazing shop and I should cover the car cover/car with plastic from home depot. I can't believe no one picked up on thetypo that OCDrifter said: he mentioned heh details, tints windows, jack off??????  sorry couldn't resist.

I’m covering the cars I store in my shop for the winter also. I look at it as just an extra layer of protection if something or someone gets too close. I can easily buff a small rub from the cover if there is one but the risk of a scratch on exposed paint would cost a lot here.

Would that work?

Also any suggestions on putting something on the side to help prevent door dings? We are having a baby any day now and the wife wants to park in the garage (not the time to tell her no lol) She will be unloading the baby and stuff in the garage. Lets just say she is not as careful as me. I was thinking carpet padding.

If you do add something under the cover as a pad to prevent door dings, make sure it wont hold any moisture.  If your garage is not climate controlled, the change in temperature may create condensation under the cover if it doesn't breathe.  I believe carpet padding will hold that moisture, so it's not the best choice.

A friend of mine had door guard bumpers and they were less than $100. Think this is the style he had is http://www.eurobumperguard.com/car-door-protection, but you can search on the internet and there are some other styles out there to chose what would work best with your situation.

I tell my girlfriend no all the time. She can park outside for the 8 months of winter. My 2 Birds aren’t going to stay out in the cold. Lol

This is from experience, next time buy the thickest car cover you can buy, this help protect and blankets do not and they also make these little gems and this will solve your problem.

That’s what I call wearing the pants! HAHA

Haha. She does have an auto start though. But my daily TBSS doesn’t and it lives outside also.

The birds don’t stay outside ever in the winter and have extremely rarely left out in the summer. Before either my son or girlfriend were around.
