Quick questions...

  • did you coat over the stripes or around them?
  • have you ever thought to use ceramic trim coating on the wheel wells?
    • curious about longevity in that harsh area being blasted with road debris all the time.. if its worth doing vs. undercarriage spray

The coating we used is actually two different coatings. One went over the stripes, one went around them.

We have coated wheel wells on vehicles. We will usually only do it on newer vehicles. The cost to a client to properly clean and prep older wheel wells is a point of diminishing returns. This truck had the carpeted style as well.

Typically the undercarriage spray works well.

Well the boys have been at it again!  We had an Audi A3 come in for a quick one step exterior and some protection. This one turned around better than anticipated!

And then we had a Mercedes Benz S550 come in for our flagship coating. It turns out that the vehicle had been coated prior to the current owner receiving it. We presented the option to stick with what they had and save a bunch of money, or to have us strip it and reapply our coating. We couldn’t imagine not giving them the option once we realized it was coated, that idea didn’t sit right with me when trying to deal honestly with people. The client said to strip off what was on it and to reapply our coatings.

The coatings required us to use wool, a rotary and cutting compounds to strip before it was corrected out with correcting and finishing polishes. It was then prepped and coated in a nine year coating.

The interior was also protected with a variety of dash, leather and fabric protective products and the windshield sealed up with a three year warranty product.

These are the results of quite a few hours, a sizable bill and a whole lot of love!

It’s been a little bit and we’ve been busy. But here’s some latest work!

This truck was a truck with 265k on it that the owner was building flipping. He decided to have us rehab and protect the paint work with some ceramic coating. This truck was hammered with water spots he didn’t think we’d get out. A few days of work, but I’d say we delivered.

After that, it was on to a car that was inherited by a client from his late mother. It’s a 2001 Cadillac that had just 29k original miles. But as some people tend to do as they age, the paint wasn’t well cared for. Luckily we were able to preserve moms car and he can enjoy it for years to come. This finish was compliments of polishing, sealants and wax.

And the last big project was a Cadillac Escalade Platinum in for new car prep and a ceramic coating. Some light polishing and we were back at it.

Not a big turnaround, but a great protected finish for years to come inside and out with ceramic coating and leather/fabric protection.

We've been at it pretty good this week on the Bentley.  The inside is done.  It received a two step paint correction (three in some spots) and it has one of three layers of ceramic down on it.  So no finished shots yet, just teasers.  You guys can check out the interior of this car though.  Definitely the highest end car we've had the privilege of working on.  The thing is, the process doesn't change regardless of what we are working on.  We treat them all the same.

@shane@detailedreflections These are some great shots! You guys KILL it all the time! I cant wait to see what it looks like all finished. Keep up the tremendous work!

Thanks so much. We are always trying to improve. Ordered the Rupes rotary for faster corrections and the auto triz nano polisher for even smaller than our Rupes nano. Going to set up an old rarely used DeWalt with the micro polisher. Going to the next level!!!

In the on deck circle we have a Ford Mustang GT350 followed by a C7 Corvette Grand Sport. Also have a Mazda 3 coming in for our entry level coating. Then an F150 with full painted front. And lastly a C7 Z06 with Z07 package. All in for coatings...and the last Vette some ppf work. The F150 might get some film done as well...

No shortage of work going on here!

You guys are killing it and the waiting list is a good problem to have.  I have to admit that the Bentley doesn't do anything for me but I would love to own that '01 Cadillac. Keep it up guys.

Thanks man!  The Bentley was just something different from what we usually work on. I’m not the biggest fan of luxury cars, but to actually be inside one was pretty awesome to see the litter finer points of it. It’s actually a pretty cool car up close. Oh yeah, and twin turbos don’t hurt it any either.

I’d still love to get a McLaren in. That’s my dream car...both to own and work on. Maybe someday.

@shane@detailedreflections what is the top of the Bentley made of?  Hard top or soft, would love to hear what you and the team use to clean/protect soft tops.

The top of the Bentley is a soft top that has a hard frame on it. So it’s treated like fabric. We clean them through normal washing and then cleaning with a boars hair brush and carpet and upholstery cleaner. To protect the fabric when it’s all done, we use either GTechniq Fabric Guard AB or Cquartz fabric. 303 and RaggTop both also make great products for convertible tops. I usually don’t openly recommend products in the open forum other than Adams but since they don’t make a product for this application yet, it should be allowed.

The fabric protection really should be reapplied approximately every six months to maintain it.

Thanks Shane, I use one of those other products on my soft top, so glad I'm on the same page as you guys.. It's inspirational to see you and your teams work and the input you provide here.  Keep up the good work and Thanks!

You’re welcome. And it should have said Fabric Guard and not leather. I fixed it!

And thank you for the compliment.

Well...we finally finished the Bentley and it went home.  Not a true "exotic" in terms of sports cars, but what a cool car to work on.  The details in the car are amazing.  You guys have seen the inside, now it's time to see the exterior in all of it's paint corrected and ceramic coated glossy glory!!!

And up next after we dropped this off is this Ford Mustang Shelby GT350...It might look fresh now, but under the lights is swirl city despite only have 2200 miles on her.  We have solutions luckily!
