When I was in Desert Storm, we use to get care packages from the folks back home. To tell the truth, anything and everything you could think of was packed in them. One of my favorites was the rum cakes that were in the tin. A very big hit. Beef jerky as well.
We got a letter from a soldier once telling us they needed tee shirts and skivvies because they couldn't wash them as often as they would like and they got to be a little smelly sometimes. We didn't have that problem where I was at but I could imagine the soldiers out in the desert have it rough.
