  1. It came from a paint and body shop, and I believe it was gray primer. It was very difficult to remove. What happened was that a nieborhood kid hit a brick mailbox next to my house and sprayed my Lincoln with debris. We took it to be repaired right before I went overseas, and the repair job was excellent. (that was all I looked at ) A couple months later, I was washing the car and noticed the gray specks of overspray. I thought there might be an easier way to remove them, because the clay did not seem to be doing anything. I ended up spenting about 8 hours on with the clay bar, but the results were very good. Thanks:thumbsup:
  2. Guys, I finished detailing the Lincoln and I got about *99% of the specks off. It was hard work, but it paid off big time. I will post before and after picture when my daughter brings my camera card back. Thanks for all of the advice. * every now and then I find a few tiny spots, which I am still working to remove.
  3. I worked the hood twice yesterday with clay. It seems to be helping some, but there are still a lot of specks. I am going to try again today. I may try using the APC diluted if I am not making progress. I have never detailed this car, as it is our DD, so I want to get it right before proceeding. Thanks for all of the help.
  4. I gave it a shot with clay, but it did not seem to be doing aything. i will try it again and post some pictures.
  5. I have some overspray (little gray specks) on the hood of my MKZ. I would like to find a product to use to buff them out. I went to Auto Zone and asked the manager for something to remove overspray and he showed me a clay bar. I have a PC buffer but do not know what type of compound to use or where to get it. Ideas?

    Good News Thread

Tommorrow I can going home! I work in Africa (Angola) and tommorrow my 28 day hitch is up and I get to go home and see my family! I also get to drive my Vette and play with the grandsons. 3 hours to Jo-burg SA, then 15 hours to Atlanta and a short hop to Lafayette will put me home Friday at 10:30 AM Central time. It is always great to return to the USA.
  8. Good luck with that Eagle Scout Service Project. As an Eagle Scout myself (July 1969) I still consider this to be one of the most meaningful events of my lifetime. This achievement will serve you well in the future. Congratulations (in advance) One more thing, remember to keep serving your community and country in your future endeavers.
  9. I am not who you asked, but I will put my 2 cents worth in since I make road trips regularly. Of course it is easier to fly. The trips about being on the open road, seeing America along the way. finding an off the wall restaurant, staying in a cabin or bed and breakfast 50 miles from no where. Example: On the road trip I mentioned in post 1 (The Blue Ridge Parkway) we found a wonderful B&B on the side of a foothill way out in the country.. We asked the folks there where to eat and they told us about a great country restaurant that served homemade fried chicken, roast beef, chicken and dumplins, etc, family style (they bring it out in blowls and plates and you eat until you are full) for 12 bucks. The country Inn atmosphere at this place was great and the food was fantastic. If I took a flying vacation, I would have missed this stuff. We also meet a lot of nice people along the way, some vette folks and sometimes other people just want to tell us about the uncle Earnie who had a 63 vette when they were kids. A lot of Americans identify with Corvette and this creates some good opportunities to just meet and talk to folks. I work in Africa 28 days on 28 days off, so I can fly free most of the time on air miles. We do go on one fly vacation a year (normally to Vegas) but this does not substitute for our road trips.
  10. Key West is one I definitely want to make, if I live long enough. So Many road trips... so little time....
  11. No, the tail of the Dragon is a 13 mile stretch of road in the Smokey Mountains that begins about 20 miles from Pigeon Forge and ends just inside North Carolina about 20 miles or so from Cherokee. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Park or National Roadway that is about 370 miles long. The curves are not quite as severe as the the Dragon, but there is almost no end to them. It is also one of the most scenic drives in the USA. I typically "slay the Dragon" about once a year, (normally in the spring or fall when the bike traffic is lower) but I'll probably skip this year since we did the parkway. Another great road trip I made was down Highway 1 in California from San Francisco to Big Sur. That was probably the most scenic drive ever. Unfortunately I was in a rental convertible (We flew to SF) instead of my Vette. I hope to drive the Vette out to LA one day and go from LA to Oregon on 1, but that is in the future (hopefully.)
  12. Oops, I do not have any pictures on my work machine, they are on my home computer... 8000 miles away. (I am at work in Africa) I don't go home until 30 July. My best picture though was probably my wife and my Vette in front of Floyd's Barbershop in Mount Airy (AKA Mayberry.) I may post it when I get home.
  13. But I wish I had a street rod pickup truck. (and I may pick one up soon) I also would like to own a heavy duty 3/4 ton with a car hauling trailer... but I am dreaming. Since we have the Vettes and the MKZ, my desires are rather modest.
  14. Hi everyone, Since gas is currently cheap (well, not 4 bucks a gallon anyway,) my wife and I did a road trip in June in the C6. I will tell a little about ours then invite anyone else to tell about theirs. We we basically drove the Blue Ridge Parkway which begins in Cherokee NC and goes northward into Virginia. The speed limit is 45 on most of the parkway, but with the twisty road and hair pin curves, this makes for some fun driving. (and we may have pushed that a notch or two at times... ) Anyway, along the way we stopped at Biltmore in Ashville, North Carolina, Mt Airly NC (of Mayberry fame), a great rustic Bed and Breakfast near Ronoak Virginia, and we ended up at Colonial Williamsburg :patriot:after we left the parkway. We do at least one road trip each year, and this was one of our favorites It was relatively cool (compared to the heat in Louisiana) the entire trip. I highly recommend this as a road tour for those of us who like to polish AND drive our cars. The whole trip including the drive from home was about 9 days. Now, tell me about yours....
  15. He is 1 year and 7 months now. This was probably taken about 4 months ago. My other Grandson is 7 months. Those little fellows are the light of my life.
  16. Wow, just got back from Africa yesterday, it is a beautiful mild day in Louisiana, and I while I was gone I got my Americana wax... Well you can guess the rest!
  17. Here is a picture of me and one of my Corvette buddies. (at least hopefully he will be in a few years, for now he is mainly one of my 2 grandsons)
  18. Vette Girl I guess I liked it a lot better before 911, although long flights have always been a drudge. Since it is just part of my job, I don't think about it a lot. When I fly to work, I go through Johanasburg, South Africa via Delta. The flight is a total of 18 hours. There is a 2 hour stop in Senegol for fuel, but we do not deplane. I have flown on 16 hours flights from LA to Hong Kong and Singapore with no stop at all. Singapore Airlines makes the Singapore flight slightly more comfortable, but none of these flights is a lot of fun....especially in Coach. Now, I will fly home on 4 June. Then I can play with my grandsons and my cars; now that will be fun! BTW Vettegirl, I have always wanted a 73 Vette (the year I graduated high school) I hope to add one to the garage in the next few years.
  19. Since I work 28-28 in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</st1:place>Africa, I am awarded quite a few frequent Flyer miles. In the past, I have used SOME of them for vacations and the like. (some of them just expired unused)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=_x0000_i1025 style="WIDTH: 24.75pt; HEIGHT: 26.25pt" alt="" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata o:href="http://adamsforums.com/forums/images/smilies/yay.gif" src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\H072311\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape><o:p></o:p>
  20. I also had used Zaino’s for a while. I had great success using it on my old car, a black C5, but I have never been quite satisfied with it on my C6. I was not overloaded with swirl marks, but the PC along <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</st1:place>Adams arsenal did clear up my paint. I have already used the Machine polish the car, but I just purchased some of the Americano Paste, so I cannot wait to get home (I am overseas) to layer it on the C6.
  21. I tried it on my C6 Vette. Doesn't work well. Came across this thing in the garage a couple of month back, it took me a little time to remember I even had it...
  22. That has not happened to me, but the APC is a great product. (maybe you'll get to keep it:xfingers:)I am sure if you contact them, they will make it right. These guys seem to be very customer service oriented.
  23. Thanks. I just want them to look matte. I have even thought out replacing the front ones with new, but first I will give this one more try.
  24. Sorry I cannot post picture right now as I am at work in Africa. I will be home on 5 June and I just thought I might be able to find out a product to order so that it might come in before I get home. I will be detailing this car when I am at home in June. To describe the look though, the fender wells just look faded and gray (they look beat) when the Undercarraige spray drys. I hate to just spray paint them because I am almost certain there is something out there that will help them look natural, as they were when new.
  25. I have a question about undercarriage restoration on my 1988 Corvette. Several months back, I posed a question on the Corvette forum about how to bring my C4 fender wells back to a decent look. Someone emailed me and suggested I order some Adam’s Invisible Undercarraige spray. This was the first Adams product I had tried. Here is the procedure I used: I first spray a genrous amount of Adams APC (I have since bought this) on the fender wells. At this point I will brush them, rinse, and allow them to dry. After they are dry, I spray them with Adams invisible undercarraige spray. Maybe I am not using the proper method, but so far I am less than thrilled with the results. The wheel wells still dry looking dull. Should I use some kind of paint to restore the ebony look that these had when they were new. If so, can anyone recommend anything?
