I always do paste waxes with a hand applicator, liquid waxes with a machine.

Yes, spray it and let it dry. I always pull my truck ahead a few feet, so I don't end up with a dull spot from where the tire sits on my drive way. Just make sure to wipe the over spray off of your wheels, and don't drive it until it's dry. -
