The Porter-Cable 7424 Operator's Manual
Krzdimond replied to Junkman2008's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
Should be imprinted, or molded into the cord itself, about every 12 to 18 inches. I have some that are easy to read, and others not so much. The 7424, if I remember, is 6A, so that cord should be fine. For future reference, Volts times amps = watts; and watts divided by volts = amps. I had a chart somewhere that had amps times feet = AWG, but I can't find it.... -
The Porter-Cable 7424 Operator's Manual
Krzdimond replied to Junkman2008's question in General Detailing Discussion and Questions
The size of the insulation (jacket) has NOTHING to so with the size of the wire inside. Look on the jacket for some numbers imprinted on it. Should be 14AGW for 50 feet or less, and 12AWG for 100 feet of cable. -
Been 2 hours and only 2 groups of kids There are only 6 lights on on the whole block......... **** economy

PC 7427 ain't "cutting it" anymore
Krzdimond replied to Krzdimond's question in Paint Correction & Polishing
Thanks, Junkman. Not to be facetious- by ANY stretch of the imagination, but isn't that what tape is for? I understand that there is a learning curve with a rotary, but if I don't start, I'll never learn....... I'm thinking that the flex DA would be the next logical progression in tools and level of correction. I had to pass on a Mercury Grand Marque where the wife had used "an old pot scrubber" (HIS words, not mine) to remove tree sap because I KNEW the PC wouldn't fix it. Another customer, whose other car is a 70 Chevelle with slight 'orange peel', that he wants removed and he can't find anyone that willing to do it- outside of a body shop. This is the niche market that I am trying to get into. As my tagline reads "More than just a wash and wax". Now I just need to deliver;) Robert -
I have been using the PC for bout 3 years now, with great success. Problem is, I am now (and have for some time) getting customers that require more correction than the PC can handle. Yesterday I spent about 8 hours with various pads and products (polishes and compounds) to correct a black '04 Mercedes S class:mad: There HAS to be a better way! So, I started looking for another machine. This has gotten confusing. I was leaning towards the Flex 3401 VRG, but I am thinking that it is "just" a more powerful PC. I need something that can correct/level paint so I don't have to spend hours upon hours in vain with an underpowered/incorrect machine. And would like advice from someone that isn't "selling one":waxing: So, is the 3401 "just" another PC, or is it REALLY a rotary with the safety of a DA? Should I get a rotary? Or will the 3401 work? I have a spare hood to practice on and I "learn fast":dance

In and Out Spray Relacement ????

PM me and I'll send you a link to what is the next best thing. Works the same (without the baby powder smell:() AND it's 50 state VOC compliant. NOTE: I am not advocating using a competitors product, just offering options for a product no longer available here. -
3/4 time. Still haul fuel 3 days a week as part time as a backup "just in case" (winter is just around the corner), but detailing pays the bills

I just put all my eggs into one basket.......

IDK, maybe 7-8 hours? Did a little by little every night after I got home from work for 4 days (work a little, take a break and drink a beer, then work a little more, beer break, etc) Seems that it was "garage kept" for a little over 4 years (last registration sticker is from 2004). Dry docked indoors, so the haze was just "oxidation"? Not into the gelcoat. Came off pretty easily, if I do say so myself. $12 a foot:jawdrop: On a 23.5 foot boat, that comes out to............ Michigan public school math.......... carry the 2......... add the 7.......... $282.

He's THRILLED, wants to know how much to pay me. I don't have a clue. Plan was to chalk this up to a learning experience, but he isn't having that. Any idea what the "going rate" is to polish and wax a boat? Somehow I remember (on another site) $7 a foot, but that may be for RV's?

Finished it today:banana: Rained on and off all week, so it took 4 days to complete:mad: Rain was threatening again today, so there is no sun, but the boat will go out into the water tomorrow rain or shine and I am NOT responsible for the condition when it returns:rolleyes:

Done.... TWICE!! She brings it over "when she can't take it anymore" I also did his truck, which he hunts in, twice. He says that he'll bring it over after hunting season..... in December. Anyway, here's an update on the boat. Couldn't finish due to thunderstorms and lightning..... Process: Orange Gen II pad with SHR set on 6 on the PC. That's it. Before: 50/50 And the "so far" afters: (Polished from back to about 1/2 way between the wheels on the trailer)

I don't know...... I had to send my daughter 1600 miles away to get her out of the house, out of my wife's pocket and out of my checkbook:help:
