  1. What's up people! Two questions. I neglected my car for too long, and my last wash was pretty ronchy as a result. There's some debris in both the 9x9 and 11x11 wash pads that I couldn't get out by rinsing aggressively. The website says machine washing isn't recommended. Any other thoughts on cleaning up these pads, or are they dead? I've neglected some of the nooks and crannies of my car, and as a result they are getting VERY soiled. I'm talking about the door jams, trunk jam, around the gaskets under the hood, etc. Basically, the areas you can't see if you washed the full exterior of the car. What's the best way to clean these? For example, the door jams are painted, and I don't know how to get all the crud off without getting in there with a utility towel and possibly scratching it all up in the process. Recommendations?
  2. Sorry man. Didn't mean to be bothering you. Just doing this for the first time and have a lot of questions, that's all. I actually have watched the videos a bunch of times. I'm having good results so far I think. But I'll stop posting so much.
  3. I feel like I just got in trouble at school. Doh! Oh well, I'm learning! Thanks for the tips. Will fine machine polish remove micro marring, or will I have to go back again with SHR? I can't tell yet if I have just a dull finish from SHR or if it's micro marring.
  4. I think you're right. I looked at the pad. It doesn't seem to have degraded. But there's a little bit of caked polish on the very edges if the pad. I'll use less. I'm using the junkman technique! Is there any other?? Haha. I started out by priming the pad with the 4 pea sized dots and a shot of detail spray. Maybe they were too large. I'll use less now! Gotta love technology. Asking questions in real time with a smart phone, and getting almost instant responses. You guys rock. Back to work! Stay tuned. Ps. I can already see results!
  5. I've finally started polishing! Question: I'm seeing some pad shavings come off as I'm polishing. Like tiny pieces of the pad coming off. When using the orange pad, it's like a little bit of orange dust is left behind. However, it's not like whole pieces of the pad are coming off or anything. Is that normal? Am I just seeing them easier because they're standing out against my black paint? I know the pads wear down over time, just wasn't sure if you could see it happen or not in the form of this "pad dust" left behind. If they're not supposed to do that visibly, is there maybe something I'm doing wrong? Or maybe bad pads (I doubt it)?
  6. The kit came! It looks like Adam's was nice enough to attach the backing plate to the PC for me. Is it pretty much ready to use as is? The video that you posted on YouTube on prepping the PC is private so I can't watch it.
  7. That was my fear. In your experience, what do you think a pro would charge to fix it? It would probably depend on whether or not they resprayed the entire panel, or feathered it in. As for the claying, I'ma have to wait and give the Adam's clay a go once your kit gets here. I've been using meguiars clay. It seems a little soft. Maybe Adams clay will work a little better.
  8. Here are some pictures. I tried the best I could to capture it. I've never used any kind of tire dressings, so I don't think this is staining from that. But I can feel these little rust specs with my nail - so I don't think it's a stain. You can see three of them together here. The camera didn't capture their color all that accurately. They're a brown/red rusty color. I'm also posting a couple pictures of a door ding I got this summer. Someone next to me at the driving range decided to open their door as far as it could go. I can feel it with my nail, so I'm guessing wet sanding on that one. Ugh.
  9. So you know how rail dust and other contaminants can cause little rust specks in your paint? I'm noticing some of that on my car. I've been looking closer at my paint lately in preparation for doing some detailing. Anyway, I don't think they are everywhere, but the ones I can see seem to be along the bottom of the fenders and doors (where break dust probably accumulated). The car is black, so it's a little harder to see. There nonetheless, though. I tried claying them out without luck. If they're not coming out, will they polish out? Or will polishing over them just cause more damage and problems?
  10. thanks! does anyone have any tips for using the PC on a black car? I've been reading that black cars and PCs can be a little harder to manage, especially for the novice. Apparently this combination is more susceptible to micro marring? Not sure because I've never done it. I plan on watching the junkman videos one more time to make sure I have all that memorized as well, before I dive in. Also, is it possible to use the 6 inch pads on areas that a 4 inch pad should probably be used on, such as along the A pillars on the sides of the windshield? My logic says this could be bad, especially when you have only about 3 or 4 inches of paint in contact with a 6.75 inch pad. That seems like it could get a little hairy.
  11. Junkman, comin' at ya again with another question! Don't get sick of me! I picked up a dr colorchip kit, as well as your Adams kit (can't wait until that gets here). Would you recommend that I use the dr colorchip first, or your paint correction methods? Will the polish just remove the colorchip paint, or will it be bonded well enough to behave as if it were just normal paint?
  12. Hey Junkman- A couple more questions. I was on the Adams Website checking some stuff out. I noticed that your kit comes with Machine Super Wax, but I couldn't seem to find that product on its own on the website. I did find Machine Super Sealant, though. Has the super wax product been re-named/replaced with the super sealant? And if so, does your kit just ship with the Super Sealant instead? Also, regarding the upgrade in your kit to the Americana Carnuba wax. Will the kit still ship with the black waxing pad? If so, do you recommend applying the Americana Carnuba with this pad, or by hand with the included hand applicator (I'm assuming your upgraded kit would come with the hand applicator)? And lastly - what's your honest opinion. Does the Americana Carnuba out perform the Super Wax/Super Sealant?
  13. Junkman! So when I polish for the first time, the only thing I think I'll be nervous about is not knowing when the polish has "flashed". I don't see there being an issue with under working it (other than having to use more polish). But what could happen if I over work the polish with the PC? Also, what's the difference between a lot of these polishing terms like "hazing", "marring", "micro-marring" etc.
  14. Very true. Kind of a dumb question I suppose. Thanks for the speedy reply! I drive a 2010 Mazda3 Grand Touring. Not a show car by any means, but it's super fun to drive! The 6 speed manual never gets old. Here'a s picture of it after I washed and clayed it (I was amazed at the stuff I pulled out of the paint). The swirls are large and in charge, but I hope to have them removed soon!
  15. Add another member to the forum! I stumbled across one of your videos on YouTube, and got hooked pretty fast. Keep up the great work. It also helps that you make me laugh a lot, got to keep this fun! A few quick questions to start things out... I bought a new car about a year and a half ago, and am guilty of not properly caring for its paint job (I hate winter in the Boston area). I have the standard swirls and scratches that need to be properly corrected. However, I also have some small paint chips on my front end/hood area from pebbles getting kicked up and having a field day on my paint job. What are your thoughts on these? I have some touch up paint from the dealer that should be a 100% match. Would you apply touch up paint, and then polish everything back up? Or, should I not use touch up paint? Should I just live with these small chips, and realize that after I'm done polishing, the paint is far better off than it was before? I certainly could have the entire front end re-sprayed, but that seems a little extreme. Also, I'm thinking that some of these chips might have been avoided if I had a proper sealant/wax on the paint to begin with. Am I correct in this assumption, or is a pebble at 65 mph on the highway going to chip your paint no matter what? And lastly...you mentioned in one of your videos that when using the proper PC speed when polishing, that you won't finish the car in a day. Can you elaborate on that a little? When you do a full correction, do you have the car in your garage for the weekend, and don't take it out until you're done?
