  1. my new custom uke is an unusual finish and super glossy. anybody that has one of the upper end Taylor guitars it's the same UV cured finish they use. tried the DS on it and it SUPER glossy and even shinier now. i expected that. what i wasn't sure would happen is how slippy it is. the body is very slippery and the neck is too. which is nice because it offers even less resistance on the neck when playing. wonder how it will effect the finish over time? thanks for all the recovery wishes. i notice i haven't been flooded with emails saying when people are coming over to help claybar and work my PC....
  2. been a hard winter.. in december i walked out my front door and slipped on my lawn and broke all the bones that hold your foot on.... yep, totally destroyed my ankle. had surgery on both sides and a couple dozen screws and plates put in and then had to stay in bed with my foot suspended for over 16 weeks afterwards. was allowed to start walking a little at 5 months and when i put my leg down to try the one bone broke again instantly... but i seem to be on the road again now. although i could sure use some help if anybody wants to come over and help me burn up some adams products and clean a couple of cars .....
  3. ok, maybe not a guitar. i have a custom hawaiian made tenor ukulele with a high gloss finish and wondered if spray detailer would be safe on it? i think it probably would but thought i'd ask before i use it frequently. it's a koa wood instrument with a UV cured high gloss finish. i use a little microfiber cloth that people make for guitars and ukes but imagine that ours is much higher quality and is better for it. we gotta have some musicians on our forum with expensive git boxes who use the same stuff on their instruments as they do on their ferraris....
  4. HI Gang I want to say thanks to all of you for the FANTASTIC gifts you've given me... I haven't had a chance to use most things yet because i was delayed in leaving South Carolina and when i got home the weather was cold, snowy and miserable to work outside. i did try my dads power washer and the car shampoo along with the wheel cleaner and brush and washed with a pad and then dried with the towels and sidekick. i used some spray deatailer too. THIS STUFF IS FANTASTIC !!!!! I can't wait to really do a thorough job and get some polish and wax on before i leave again for the suck. But wanted to show you a picture of who i am and tell all of you how much i appreciate your generosity and also for introducing to the adams products. if any of you are ever in the Charleston SC area when i'm in the country would be nice to meet with you. Again, thank you all so much Damien Young
  5. coming home has been set back a few days because he got hit with a PT fitness test and also re-qualifying with his weapon. so he didn't come on the date planned. but he'll be here and i haven't forgotten about pictures.... :--)
  6. haven't heard from anybody so i'm assuming i'm not going to have anybody come. i realize it's a long trip for everybody and also looks like the weather is gonna be lousy too. but thanks for all the kindnesses and i'll get lots of pics and some vids. les
  7. won't be long till dami comes home and begins his auto detailing 101 class. was wondering if anybody had freed up any time to come so i know how many hotdogs to buy? if nobody can make it i'll make sure to get lots of pictures when he gets stuff so everyone can ''be in'' on the presentation. i know it's a long trip for everybody that donated to him. i'll make sure you all see him get stuff if nobody can come and maybe afterwards when he has his stuff he can arrange to meet up with people when he gets home. he lives in charleston sc, which vacation homes in smelly tents in such exotic wonderlands as in afganastan, oman, kuwait, irac, kryzakstan, pakistan, germany, siciily, japan, united arab imirates, uzbekestan and a bunch of other ''stans'' and deserts i'm not allowed to know about that nobody would want to go. he did get to go to china and korea once though when he hauled president you know who's secret service and limosene there. gee... maybe if he ever does that again he can take his new PC and Adams stuff along and shine it up special while they're crossing the big wawa... right now i'm not planning on anybody being able to make it, so shoot me a message if i'm wrong so i know what to plan. i have oct. 23rd on sunday open if anybody wants to come over. know that if you can't come, you will all be in our hearts....
  8. there's a possibility we may need to change the date to sunday the 23rd of oct.. same place. would that work as well or better for anybody who wants to come? he may not be here the following sat.
  9. there were a whole bunch of boxes delivered to my house today... i felt bad for the fedx kid because they all think they have to park out on the street. so he rings my bell standing in the rain and walks down the steps and out the driveway to get another one and i said ''why don't you just back into the driveway do you don't have to walk so far''... this time he actually took me up on it. there were a lot of boxes though. i felt like i was a detailing shop gettin supplies in for a few months....
  10. lynn my wifes from harlingen tx down by brownsville. i remember us driving down... we went through pa, oh, ky, tn and all the other states and then got to tx. then we drove as far in just tx as we did in all the other states put together i think... i'm still waiting to find out the exact dates he gonna be home. there's a possibility that sat could change to the one before. i know during the week wouldn't be good for people. but i'm tryin to make sure we have a get together when he's actually here. that would be good i guess...
  11. to the people that donated and that live close enough and would like to come to the presentation i thought maybe we could get together on sat. oct 29th. only thing is i need to have an idea on how many people can come to make reservations. if the weather is nice we could do a little bbq or something at my place, but i'm also looking for a place that has enough space to let us bring in the boxes. we live at pa exit number 3, or maybe they call it mile marker 28 on the pa turnpike. also, off of I79 at the wexford pa exit. is close to both and easy to get to. basically north about 25 miles from downtown pgh. let me know which direction you're coming from and i'll give you directions. is still a tentative date cause i'm hoping he'll be coming home from SC, but with his schedule anything is open to change. i know he's trying to take a little vacation time but he did the same thing last year and ended up in afganastan instead.... but let me know those of you that think you could make it on that day and i'll see if i can make plans only thing is if i have it at my house and you have a folding chair try to bring it. i have a huge driveway so we could bbq and detail at the same time....
  12. ever hear of the old expression ''a picture is worth a thousand words.....'' or how bout the one ''put your money where your mouth is....'' well, here we have it. you guys have showed a lot of class and appreciation to a stranger that does a job some people take for granted. i for one won't ever forget you. that's a great picture adam. hopefully i can get as good of one for you from this end when the boxes get delivered....
  13. the 29th is a saturday and the only weekend date i could do anything. anybody that donated and lives close enough to come i'll take them out to lunch for the ''presentation...'' i live about 3 miles off the pa turnpike at the cranberry township exit which is about 29 miles from the ohio border. i do need to know how many people are coming so i can make arrangements
  14. and i thought i was gonna have to show him how to use stuff... maybe with his new stuff he'll get so good he'll go into the detailing business part time for his buddies....
  15. Am i allowed to ask him if i can borrow anything while he's home or do i have to join the marines or something first? I think i do enough worrying to warrant being allowed to borrow a couple sprays of his wheel cleaner since he's gonna use my water and electric while he's home. After he works on his car he probably won't want to drive it around and get it dirty and i'll have to loan him a car, so he can at least try his new vacume cleaner out by doin my car..
  16. lynn is a piece of work... talk about going above and beyond. i know for a fact she has put a lot of work in on this balancing out donations with the right products and everything. thank you lynn for your effort and second and third effort... you have a big fan named les here in pgh pa.... i owe you and when you need it i'll be here for you. just ask....
  17. the way this is going i'm thinkin it's a good thing that the back seat goes down in the new camaros and you have lots of space to haul stuff. otherwise how's he gonna get the shop vac and car dryer and all the other stuff in that's still gonna come??? is there much more in the adams catalog to get? i'm jealous.... i guess for Christmas i'm gonna have to buy him a shelf system for his garage to put everything on... either that or he'll keep it all in his bedroom
  18. dana... what do you say to someone who says that he wants to make his first purchase for himself, but wants to give a total stranger a gift first??? you and all the other folks have shown a generosity towards my son along with a thanks for his service that is very touching and inspirational. i wish we could get this little story to the press to prove how a lot of folks in this country feel toward their military family who protects them. i have had a couple of people in the past say to me ''how do you think the military protects us? all they do is what the political leaders tell them to do to protect american business interests....'' well, i'll tell ya what. you take away our military and see how long it is till we turn into libya or one of the other countries that are being overrun. we have our problems here but they could be a LOT worse if it weren't for a lot of men and women who ''have our backs...'' if we had more people around like some of you on this forum it would be very interesting to me to imagine how we could get things done? you guys are amazing.... that's all i can say. you're just amazing. thanks you from the bottom of my heart. i can't wait till he comes home and i get to say ''oh, by the way... the folks on the adams forum and and the company itself wanted to give you a little something as an expression of their appreciation for what you do.... let me go get the box for you...'' and then i wheel the boxes in on a hand cart / dolly and say ''here, you need a hand opening stuff? .......'' i'll get pictures... anybody live near pgh pa?
  19. this has turned into something i never dreamed would happen... i hope the donations come in for ''the ultimate...'' i know a secret to be revealed later....
  20. in case anybody did any calculations from the pictures that he's in one celebrating the superbowl and in another the next year asking for christmas cookiesr... so yes, he's had to be there for the last two christmas'.... that's kind of tough but you notice he's smiling... he's always smiling.... if you look through his facebook you'll notice a good sense of humor and always smiling. when his colonel asked for ideas for a symbol of their squadron for an event he volunteered to be the mascot of his squadron which is called the ''lions force'' and dressed up in his homemade lions flightsuit. Log In | Facebook Log In | Facebook now you all know if he finds out i showed you these pictures, which are posted in plain sight on his facebook site, he's gonna KILL me... and he does carry a gun for work... you gotta be pretty confidant about your manhood to do something like this:lolsmack: i wanted everybody to know though that you're doin a nice gesture to a good guy, and he will be speechless by your generosity and probably invite you all to visit down south... of course, i'm a little prejudiced i actually hope some of you if you are in my area can come over and visit even if the weather is too cold to work outside. i'd like to meet you and have you as my guests. you're all invited
  21. not sure if these will come through... i've never posted pics on a forum before. but here's a couple shots of dami. one with me and his new car when he got it. another from last Christmas from afganastan, and another from the year before during the superbowl. the one is pretty self explanatory and the other is a strange way to celebrate the superbowl while wearing a shoulder holster and flak jacket in kabul.... hope this works. sorry if i did it wrong...
  22. i live just north of pgh pa about 20 miles from downtown. i know he's coming to visit for about a week the end of oct beginning of nov. reason is he tries to go to one steeler game a year and he sold all his earthly possessions, borrowed on his iife insurance and took every cent out of his bank account to pay for 2 tickets to the steeler vs patriots game on oct 30th... welcome to the world of ticket scalping to be able to go to a game.... he doesn't know about what's happening, but depending on what the weather is like maybe i could have a combination car cleaning party / bbq for anyone wanting to come over and ''instruct'' on how to do things. he's never done anything to the level you guys do so i'm sure he'd like to get some one on one help. after he, and his name is damien so we won't call him ''him'' anymore, graduated from college he thought he'd like to be in the restaurant business and went to chefs school and became a for real chef. so while i can't guarantee the weather will be good i can guarantee that the food will be fantastic and i'm positive he'd be more than happy to cook for anybody wanting to come over. unfortunately we don't have a garage to work in so it would have to be outside. but with a little luck the weather might cooperate. i'd love meeting anybody in the area that's into this as well. i may be just the ''old'' father but i have a couple of pretty nice cars myself. a 700 horse almost perfect old school camaro z28 muscle car and also a buick grand national. so i'm trying to learn how to do this stuff for real myself. you folks have showed an awful lot of class in this little gesture to a stranger. all i originally wanted to know was what would be the best stuff to start with for a little gift of about 40 or 50 bucks and you guys have really shown how nice this world can be. dami lives in charleston sc and is leaving in march for his 5th tour over there and won't be home until the next fall. in fact he's there right now but only for about 2 or 3 weeks... he saved for quite a while to buy his new SS and i think sometimes one of the things he gets to do that he likes best is to drive his car when he gets to come home....
