  1. Or you could do those parts that need to be done by hand first. Save the PC work for later.
  2. Come on everyone. Cut the guy some slack. While I don't care for it, I'm not going to knock it either. Obviously the owner thinks it looks good. I checked and most 28" wheels are in the $2000 to $2500 range. The cheapest I could find were $1500 EACH. Add to that the cost of the tires, $500+ per tire, and you're looking at a minimum of $8000 for the set. Anyone that spends that kind of money on his car/truck can't be all bad. Would I do it to my truck? Of course not. But I've been told my truck looked dumb because I LOWERED a truck instead of lifting it. My truck will NEVER be taken off road. So why would I lift it? I've also been told I "didn't lower it enough." I think it looks good and I'm the ONLY one I have to please. When friends ask me "Why did you do that to your truck?" I always tell them "because I can." I've seen any number of cars/trucks right here in this forum that were Black, with a Black interior, many with blacked out windows, and some with Black wheels. Again not my thing, but I'm sure the owners think they look good. Have any of you been told you are to anal about detailing your car, by someone that washes his car about once a year whether it needs it of not? How did that make you feel?
  3. Thanks David. That's what I suspected, was afraid of. So I guess I'll just keep it looking as good as I can and get rid of it as soon as I possible.
  4. I don't understand this post. Are you asking a question or making a statement?
  5. Thanks for reminding me about this tread Dan. I had forgotten about it. Here are a few pics of the truck. Don't know what I did with the before photos. Probably deleted them by accident. (another senior moment.) This is the S-10 after a through washing and claying. Doesn't look to bad from a distance. Here are just a few of the numerous scratches on the sides of the truck. I'm sure someone took this truck off road on a regular basis where it was abused by tree branches and such. Someone tried to clean it up some by covering the scratches with a brushed on paint and then a coat of wax to make is blend in. No doubt to try to bring up the resale value. It didn't work. The front bumper on the right has many pot marks like this. Not sure if they are stone chips or it's blistering. On the left is after the first pass with SHR and a coat of MSW. On the right is after the 2nd pass with SHR. Note the trim below the hood. The paint is completely worn off in spots because I don't think this truck was ever waxed in the 11 years the previous owner had it. This final shot is after 3 passes with SHR, 2 coats of MSW and 2 coats of BW. Not what you guys are use to on a black car, but for my first try and considering what I had to start with, not to shabby IMO. You can't see it in these photos, but the baggie test reveals thousands of "bumps" in the surface. At this point I no longer think it's dirt that can be removed by further claying. I think because of the neglect, it's rusting from the inside out. This summer I plan to practice wet sanding and spray painting on some of the scratches. Since I'll probably be keeping this truck for a few years (Unless the stock market come roaring back) so I'll have plenty of chances to perfect my detailing skills.
  6. Thanks for the info/advice Adam. I know about sleeping on the couch. (Been there, done that, have the T-shirt.) However since I no longer have one of those, a wife that is, she decided she "needed her own space" in 1985. (That Women's lib thing was in full swing at the time and one of her bra burning girlfriends convinced her she didn't need a husband anymore.) After 25 years of marriage. Also being retired, 98% of my wardrobe consists of T-shirts and shorts. So if I ruin and occasional shirt, no big deal. So I think I'll give it a try and see what happens. What about spraying the applicators with APC and then tossing them in the washer?
  7. As suggested in the video, I've been cleaning my foam applicator and buffing pads with APC. Being inherently lazy, and looking for an easier way to do things. I was just wondering if it would be safe to wash my foam pads in the washer on the gentle cycle? I don't think they would get damaged if I stop the washer before the spin cycle. So what do you guys think? Good Idea? Bad idea? Why?
  8. Personally I'm computer challenged. Just wondering what the "geeks" on this board think of this? No offense intended. http://manneli.com/movies/Laptop.html
  9. That's the nice thing about being retired Teresa. I've been known to take 2 weeks or more to make the 2100 mile trip from Knoxville, TN (my summer home) to Palm Springs, CA.(my winter home) I once went from L.A. to Memphis and never got on an interstate. I've even been to beautiful downtown Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Also had my picture taken with the losers of the gunfight at the OK carrol. (Tombstone, AZ)
  10. Are you looking for a scenic route? Or fastest way to go? How much time do you have? Many things to consider. Interstate all the way, I-5 to I-10, would be about 850-900 miles. All your going to see on this route are taillights. A much nicer ride would be to go east to Yosemite, Mono Lake, then 395 south to Victorville, CA then 18 east Lucern Valley, 247 to Yucca Valley. From there you can go 62 west/south to I-10. Or take 62 east to Vidal Juction. From there you can go south on CA95 to I-10 or continue east to Parker, AZ. Then pick up AZ95 to AZ72 Vicksburg, AZ. Then south to I-10. Then east on I-10 to 85. South on 85 to I-8. East on I-8. I-8 joins I-10 about 75 miles or so west of Tucson. Going the second route would probably add 150-200 miles and a full day to the trip. IMO it's worth it.
  11. The nice weather does last forever Jason. It just migrates south with the rest of us snowbirds. Here in the so. Calif desert it's been in the 80's-90's for the last week. It's not all good news though. I still have to run the A/C in the house for several hrs each day.
  12. I don't need a car/boat to pick up bikini clad girls Jeff. I just tell them I'm fabulously wealthy.
  13. I didn't see a price anywhere. Did I miss it?
  14. Won't work Bill. She claims my PC makes her house "vibrate" when I have it on 6K OPM's. So she can "feel" me working as much as hear it. I live in a Senior Mobile home park in the winter. So the houses are only about 20' apart. I've Considered doing just that Dylan. I'm not sure she'd accept, but what the hell it's worth a shot.
  15. Just wondering what's the best way to use/apply SWH without a PC and swirl killer pad? I have both, but my 90 y.o. neighbor complains bitterly that I'm making to much noise when I use them. Especially at 6K OPM. She's really a nice old woman and I don't want to upset her by just ignoring her request. I use my PC whenever she's not at home. But there are times I'd like to work on the truck when she's there. So how about it. What's the best way to use SHR without the PC?
  16. I feel the same way. Had my Ranger for 7 years now. I started moding it the day I brought it home. It's a never ending project.

I first saw this about 3 or 4 years ago. I still think it's funny. I have no way of knowing if it really happened or is just a joke. Joke Thread

I know the feeling well Mike. Probably 35 years ago my ex insisted I put up lights like "all of the neighbors." So I went into my shed and built my own Christmas display out of plywood. It was a Santa hanging off of the rain gutter of my 2 story house. A reindeer hanging from his boot. An animated Ebenezer Scrooge on the Roof was beating on Santa with a very large candy cane. Of course there was a very large "Bah Humbug" When she saw it, my ex insisted I take it down immediately. I told her it would have to wait until my days off. By then it had snowed and of course I told her it was much to dangerous for me to climb up on the roof then. It was up there for over a week.
  19. Oh good. I thought my 1 gallon jug had gone bad over the summer.
  20. Just for the record, we've had winds in excess of 40 MPH for the last 3 days. On the good side, temps have been in the 90's.
  21. If you guys are actually watching this stuff. You have entirely to much time on your hands. Why not help beautify the world instead.Go out and detail your neighbors vehicle.
  22. They should go to jail. Idiots like that don't belong in a ****pit. Trying to fly VFR in conditions like that is a recipe for disaster.
