FuhTeng
Hi guys, So I changed my fiancee's oil a few weeks ago. She has a 2001 Honda Accord. Yesterday she noticed that she's leaking a tiny bit of oil (like drops per hour). She took it to my favorite oil-change place and the manager there and I are wondering if the leak (which is coming from the drain plug area) is because I didn't change the 'crush washer' when I replaced the oil. She's going to get the oil changed here really quick so the guys can take a look at the drain plug and see what is up with the crush washer. My question is: how many cars do you guys know of have a crush washer (which should be replaced every time you change the oil)? I'm almost certain my G8 doesn't have one. Thanks, Sean P.S. This is made all the more difficult because I live 2.5 hours from her.

This is made all the more difficult because I live 2.5 hours from her. It could very well be the crush washer. I replace the crush washer on my faincee's 09 Rav 4 every other time I change the oil. None of my domestic cars have them. Neither of my TBSS's nor my Xtreme utilize one. As long as the threads are in good shape and the plug tightens well, it's most likely just the crush washer that needs to be replaced.
Chris@Adams
I think that most plugs that I have or had ,have a washer-seal built into the plug. Maybe buy a new plug. However I don't have any experience on foreign car.
Team Adam's
Only car we ever owned that had that crush washer was my wifes toyota matrix... all the GM's we have or had didn't have one. I made the same mistake one of the few times I changed the oil in that car and couldn't figure out for the life of me where the oil was leaking from. Ended up taking it to the dealership and they told me the crush washer needed to be replaced at each oil change.
whiterp199
Just get a new crush washer. I have never had this problem on American cars, but on my ATV's and Dirtbikes there was a crush washer that needed to be replaced. I think it is and Asian thing. Since all of my quads/bikes were from an Japanese company.
NightMare Silverado
I never knew such a part existed all American'ish cars and none ever had that.
FuhTeng
I never knew such a part existed all American'ish cars and none ever had that. Noted. Thanks everybody. The oil change place is pretty sure that was the problem. I feel like a twit for not knowing this before I changed the oil, but when I worked with my Dad on our cars back in the day, none of them had a crush washer. They're dirt cheap, but what a pain if you don't change them!

1anonly
I had 96 Mitsu Eclipse convertible and it had one. Every oil change I replaced it. The part should be under $1.
subytek
Just about every japanese car uses a drain plug gasket. It's very hard to change it out while holding your thumb over the drain hole holding back the oil. You can use a shop vac instead, yes I said shop vac. vexxx_2007
I know my car doesn't use one, but just the name of the part makes it sound like a good idea to add one. Especially if they're only <$
whiterp199
I know my car doesn't use one, but just the name of the part makes it sound like a good idea to add one. Especially if they're only <$1 If you add it to a car that does not require one you may cause a leak as the bolt will not be threaded into the oil pan as far and the mating surfaces may not be right for the crush washer. I would look at it as Why fix what isn't broken?

DieselDude
I have not changed the washer on my the MB yet. I guess I better next time I change the oil. I have used the same washer for one year with no leaks. I would look at it as Why fix what isn't broken? I agree with Ray.
