Machine Glass Polishing

Kingsford

Question

I was looking at some websites looking at Flex Polishers and I ran across a company that makes "3 Inch Glass Polishing Pads", they also make a special type of polish for glass.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this?

Has Adam ever thought about making a 4" Pad for the PC for Glass Polishing?

Here is a recent post about removing 'etching' from a windshield -

I seen that post but what they are saying it does, is like smooths out the glass from over spray and removed bugs, shines and protects. Kind of like sealing it too.

The same effects would be had if you clayed, then used a little SHR on the yellow pad or orange pad really. Thats not so much 'polishing' the glass as it is abrading contamination from the surface.

The products and buffing discs needed to actually polish glass are closer to sandpaper than they are to buffing pads. It takes a REALLY aggressive cutting process to cut glass.

So if I tried some Clay followed by some SHR with the Yellow pad it would pretty much do the exact same thing and have good results?

Would FMP or Revive do anything?

Yes.

smooths out the glass from over spray

Clay would do this.

and removed bugs

What clay didn't get polish would, including bug guts, water spots, etc.

shines and protects.

No polishing product will shine and protect, but if you followed up polishing with Glass Sealant or even Brilliant Glaze you'd get those results.

Kind of like sealing it too.

Glass sealant.

You wouldn't bother. Like I was explaining earlier, the yellow pad and SHR aren't strong enough to cut glass, so you're only abrading the surface and scrubbing it with the abrasives, not removing any part of the glass. Think of it like using a scrubbing pad to clean dishes, you're using abrasives to take things off the surface, not remove any of the surface itself and as such theres absolutely no need to go back with a finer grade polish... its just wasted effort.
