Streaks...

Question

Well, I'm new to the machine world. I ordered through amazon a PC 7424XP a month or so ago. It came from chemical guys and came with 6 hexlogic pads. From the descriptors it's the same ones that you can purchase from adams with their complete machine detail kit. With that being said I had some time this weekend and 3 bottles of a competitors product and a Nissan Titan that badly needed attention. Since I had already spent the dough I didn't want it to go to waste. I watched the videos on here and went at it. The products are a 3 step, deep crystal system. 1st clayed the truck, so nice and smooth. Then I started with the process. 1st is a "swirl remover" in quotes because it didn't work to well. Had the machine on '4' and did the top and the hood using the orange pad. Not much difference. So i moved on to the polish. Used the white pad and still on 4. It's making a difference but it's leaving a lot of streaks as I go. Could this be due to the speed of the machine? I really want to just purchase the adams machine products and give it another go, but sadly this is the only weekend I have available till around Thanksgiving. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

My guess is that this OTC product is not going to have enough 'cut' to remove your imperfections.

Maybe try going over a small area (2' x 2') several times with the orange pads until you get the correction you want. Then move to the polish on the white pads to remove the marring from the swirl removal. Once you have the procedure dialed in, move on the rest of the truck.

I would also suggest checking the product manufacturers website to see if it contains some assistance.

It would be best if you recorded yourself and the process your using, there are too many variables that could be contributing to why your not achieving the results your looking for. First though, your speed needs to be at '5' for polishing and a little pressure is necessary.

Also, since your not using ONE product from Adams you may not get any feedback. Not to be an ***, but this forum is for people who USE Adams products, not for people who are having problems with another product and want some help using it.

Dave first question, did you follow what Junkman does with a PC (side to side then up and down pattern)? I would turn the PC to speed 5 and maybe slow down the speed you are moving. By chance is the "swirl remover" that you're using made by a "M" company? If so, I can tell you that Adam's SHR will give you 100x better results. The "M" just doesn't have the grit in it to get the job done right.

Mato, I do understand I may not got much help due to that. I do apologize to any and all reading at this moment for that. As to 1anonly, Yeah it starts with an M... As I said, I purchased it before learning about Adams and couldn't return it. So I figured at least some use for the money is better than no use. Trust me, the Adams wishlist has grown tremendously! I have been using the junkman back and forth up and down technique. Although I may be moving a little fast, I'll also put it at '5' and see how that helps! Thanks for the responses so far!

Those are the exact pads that came with the PC when I bought it. I only learned about adams after I purchased from those guys though, was talking how too's on a Titan forum and was directed here.

Then I'd probably buy some SHR, FMP, DS, Clay Bar, and MSW.... I'd put money on it will get your streaks out.

Also do you have any pictures? That usually helps the people on here help better.

Dave, let me throw an idea at you. Since you said you have the 6 colored hex logic pads, try using your (I'm assuming) Meguiars swirl remover and a yellow pad. The yellow pad is more aggessive than the orange, but since your swirl remover has less cutting properties this combo might work. However, I will warn you that this combo probably will leave mirco scratches behind. Those mirco scratches will come out the Adam's Fine Machine polish and a white pad. I also recommend that you get the Adam's Swirl and Haze remover. You will have a lot less issues, and you won't be dissappointed with the results.

I know how you feel about not wasting the stuff you got. Just remember that this is an Adam's product forum, so you might not get much help with other brands. Just some advice.

1anonly, thanks for the ideas, I finished it off with just wax and it turned out pretty nice. I'm going to be making the purchase probably tomorrow on a bunch of adams products though. I still have an Acadia calling for my precious time, as well as a jealous wife...So it's going to be time to make hers look just as nice! There are a couple scratches on hers that are to the primer. Will it work just as well with the Adams swirl and a yellow pad to make it at least blend a bit?

I would think it's probably the crappy products and crappy pads. It also may be from not using enough pressure, most people push until they hear a change in motor speed.

I'd order some of Adam's stuff and we can help you fix it more than likely. Adam promises a 110% guarantee with all the products.

I'd probably also buy a Yellow Pad for the tougher spots.

It's worth every penny my friend. Trust me, when I was told about this stuff at first I was skeptical about spending that much money and now, I love it and would never use anything else on any one of my cars!!!!

Hell.... if it doesn't work for you, I'll buy it from you.

Jason, it's not the pads. The pads he has are the same pads you have. Hex-Logic is the actually name/ brand of the pad that Adam's sells. (Correct me if I'm wrong Dylan)

It probably is a combo of not enough pressure and type of product.

I looked at the Hex Logic pads and they looked similar but there are also 7 different kinds. Thats what makes me think it might be a cheap knock off, can't really tell without seeing them and feeling them side by side.

I'm almost positive they are the same. I think the reason Adam's carries 4 of the 7 pads is because you really don't need the red, blue or, green ones. My guess is the red is the same softness as an Americana app. The Blue is the same a flip app. Not sure about the green. Why carry something you really don't need? If anything I'd think about using the blue pad with revive, but I like putting it on hand using the flip app.

I honestly didn't think about it at the time. Once the wax went on the streaks went away. I'm probably going to do the wifes Acadia after I get the basic products ordered from Adams. We just bought it used a couple months ago. I know it has 1 scratch down to the primer, there are at least 3 others through the clearcoat. I plan on giving it a bath on Wednesday and I'll get pictures of the scratches and get them posted.
