Removing paint from a chrome bumper

InDepthAutoDetailing

Question

So a boy that goes to school with my niece that lives in my neighborhood backed into a white vehicle. Bent the bumper and left a lot of white paint on the bumper. He stopped by to see if I knew how to get the paint off. I know steel wool will do it but he was afraid he'd be left with a swirled up bumper. I tried clay with no success. It was after dark so I didn't try anything else. Will the paint buff off with the focus pads? Just looking for suggestions.

I'm really hoping to get this off as I think it could lead to many potential customers in my neighborhood.

Thanks,

Len

Sorry. No pics. It was after dark when he came by.

Will the steel wool leave swirls or scratches? If so will it polish out?

Thanks,

Len

Unless you push REALLY hard it won't. Just get 0000 so it's VERY soft.

Chrome is VERY hard... VERY!!!

It may leave VERY fine scratches, but the metal polish and time should remove them.

On chrome:

0000 Steel Wool using WD-40 as the lubricant. Follow up with some metal polish and wax.

3M Adhesive remover might work too. I don't think Goo Gone will be strong enough, perhaps Goof Off. PBE stores have plastic razor blades: all kinds of uses for these babies.
