polishing clear coated aluminum wheels

Hi all!

 

I begin the 2006 mustang detail tomorrow. I have the 5 spoke polished aluminum rims that are clear coated. I plan on claying them and then I was wondering if I can use the 4" focus pads on my PC to polish the wheels, SHR, FMP, MSW. I figured since they have been clear coated this would work out well.

 

Am I on something or am I on to something?

You can do that, just be careful. Typically the clear coat on wheels is astoundingly thin and the 4" pads on a drill remove a lot of material in a hurry. Unless they're really scratched up I'd say go by hand to be safe.
