Brown/Pink spots on White Molding - Fixable?

ConstantChange

Question

Posted

A few weeks ago I noticed some brown/pink spots on the white molding on my 06 Silverado. These spots are only on the passenger side.

9+ months ago I did a full detail of the truck using my porter cable and Adams detailing supplies (It was my first time using the PC.). I didn't notice the spots at that time. The truck isn't driven very often and is garage kept. It did get driven daily for about a week a few weeks back. I'm guessing the spots showed up during that time.

I've tried Adams all purpose cleaner, WD-40, Adams clay bar, and even peanut butter (read online it removes wax). None of these made it any better or any worse.

Does it look like wax that turned this color when it was out in the sun during the day? It's smooth to the touch.

Any tips/tricks to try to remove it?

If it was wax it would come off with the things you tried, it looks more like you might have taken the paint off with the edge of the pad. But I could be wrong.

Whatever was on that piece paint wise has just worn off by the look of it. I have four plastic / rubber door protectors on the 05 F250. Three went strange kinda like yours and one still looks OK. I have to talk to my body and paint guy about them. Probably have to order all new since they are stick on pieces. Or I might just remove them altogether.

Those pieces are black/gray plastic underneath, if I had to guess I'd say the paint is thin and showing thru somewhat.

If you think its a surface contaminant try an IPA wipe down and see if there is any improvement. Its definitely not wax or anything changing color. Thats really A) not possible and B) would have been removed by APC if that were the case.
