SteelJones Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Well today it was a humid and brutal 92 degrees here in Pennsylvania and I decided to finally break out and really play with the early this morning to beat the heat. Of course with a black car and direct sun I had to move quickly. Every weekend I have been busy with this car, but I am starting to really appreciate the results. Last weekend the windows were tinted and I De-badged the car. This morning the car got WCW, bag tested, then detail sprayed to catch any fine contaminants on the paint. After that the whole car got SSHR, SHR, FMP and coated with buttery wax then VRT for the tires. The transformation of this Mercury continues... TOOLS FOR LAST WEEKENDS DE-BADGE After a lot of Goo Gone and hard rubbing.... With the badges gone it made today's :pc:much easier! Here is a scratch that came with the car when I bought it in May. I have to thank Eric at Thompson Racing for hitting this with the Flex last week. I hit it again today with the PC and it is now completely hidden. BEFORE AFTER Here is a nice buffer trail left by the dealer's complimentary detail... luckily I got to use the Flex last week (thanks again Eric) and the PC today, but the damage is still present. This shot sort of hides the damage with the sun in the reflection, but trust me the buffer trail is still there. I will continue to work on this section, but I don't know if I can get it completely out. BEFORE AFTER AFTER HITTING THE MERC WITH WCW, SSHR, SHR, FMP, DS, BW and VRT The sun made this a very hot detail and I am currently looking into an EZ Up Canopy to make future sessions less sunny.....
Bill-V8V Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 This Wallace... he doesn't even have a knighthood. But he *fights*, with *passion*, and he *inspires*. Seemed appropriate
SteelJones Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Seemed appropriate Yes the Braveheart references are always welcome... http://www.hark.com/clips/knlmxypvzh-he-fights-with-passion-and-he-inspires
eric@thompsonracing.us Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 That scratch was a b*tch, but the Flex tore it up! Still there, but you can't see it. We painted Wallace's brake calipers last night, so they're gonna look clean behind them blinged out wheels!
Chewy Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 You going to lower it Wallace? I'd say that's the last thing it needs to really make it pop. Not a lot... Just enough to remove all the space in the wells. Oh and maybe some tinted tails and just the top part of each headlight that swoops back? I think it'd make it look tough. Chris

That scratch was a b*tch, but as Eric said the Flex worked wonders... also thanks to Eric and the Thompson brothers the Milan will be flashing black calipers and rotor hats when I pick it up later today. I can't wait to see the finished product once we put the wheels back on!

Chris Not sure what I'm going to do next. Tinted tails would look nice and I will probably look into that. I am not sure about lowering the ride. I understand the wheel well theory, but the roads I drive are pretty rough. I had a lowered S10 Pick Up back in the day and I hated having to always dodge pot holes!
SteelJones Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 What color for the calipers ??? Any plans to dress up anything under the hood ???? No plans for under the hood just yet, but I am sure Eric and the Thompson brothers can talk me into doing something to make the Milan a sleeper! As for the brake calipers here is a quick cell phone shot that I took last night, sorry about the picture quality... I would show one that I painted, but Eric's brother Evan commented that it looked like it was painted by Ray Charles!
Chewy Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Yeah, I lowered my G8 VERY slightly and I don't notice much change. Just don't go nuts with hard springs. Your tires have a pretty good size profile and that helps a ton. The tint would look great. Those are some massive tails. lol Chris

eric@thompsonracing.us Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Just paint a few things under the hood to make it stand out from other Milan's  Oh, it's gotta go fast if it comes out of our shop! We'll get Wallace going, one step at a time!
Bill-V8V Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Oh, it's gotta go fast if it comes out of our shop! We'll get Wallace going, one step at a time! I can't remember who said this first but I love this quote Any idiot can make a v8 fast, it takes a special kind of idiot to make a v6 go fast.

I brought the car home and she really likes the painted calipers, but then she says (without prompting) ... "you should lower it!" She isn't usually into cars and doesn't really notice mods, but my reaction was... Where did that come from?
kdii02 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Car looks great!!! I feel for ya working on a black car in the hot PA sun. I went out and borrowed myself a nice pop-up canopy to finish my car last weekend. It really helps lower the temps on the car and you while working.. Eric, nice work on the scratch and calipers!! Flex kicks but on black cars!!!
