bigaudiofanatic Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Even after a week I am not sure if I have true Xenon bulbs in my car. They have the refracters but seem yellow and do not have any "warm up" time. If I can i would like to upgrade them if I could/look good.
Chewy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Looks like you don't have HID, but you could very well have Xenon bulbs. Spencers can probably hook you up with a plug and play kit. Chris
bigaudiofanatic Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Might have to do that, I had them in my civic however I blinded everyone because the headlights were not made to reflect that kind of light.
6spdg37s Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Might have to do that, I had them in my civic however I blinded everyone because the headlights were not made to reflect that kind of light. you have to aim them down when you do that but this car shoudnt do that becuase they have the projector lenses there already
bigaudiofanatic Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 you have to aim them down when you do that but this car shoudnt do that becuase they have the projector lenses there already Sweet than My only question would be why have the projectors there but no HID's?
Chewy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 My G8 came the same way... It's not uncommon... Cost usually dictates.
bigaudiofanatic Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 So I would not run into any problems just buying a balast and bult than?
Chewy Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Shouldn't! Sent from my iPhone4 using special algorithms and data nodes!
Diggerdan11 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 If you want to get some HID lights Check out DDM Tuning http://ddmtuning.com/Product-Categories/HID-Kits-Lighting/HID-Kits There raptor kit is only $35 and there slim kit is $45. I have installed these HIDs before. They are very easy and I have never had any problems. They also have a great warranty. I have had these in my lows on my truck for 3 years now and they are still working great.
Chewy Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Isn't 35 bucks a little....cheap? Honestly, they're all pretty low in price, but IMO, like everything, you get what you pay for. Chris
THE Mook Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I paid $35 for some Xentec junk that are currently in my lows (they flutter when on), and then went to mydepots.com and found some designed in Germany, Korean made (shakes head), for $50 or so and they are everything and more I could have wanted out of a set of HIDs!
Diggerdan11 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Isn't 35 bucks a little....cheap? Yep thats the whole Point. Like i said I have had the same set of DDM tuning HIDs in my truck now for 3 years and have never had a problem. my previouse hids were $90 and lasted less than a year.
Z71_Denali Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 yeah DDM tuning HIDs are cheap, but they have a reputation of having the worlds slowest shipping dept, and horrible customer servce. come to find out from a lot of people, their kits are now being shipped directly from China, they have chinese written all over the boxes and there quality in the past year or 2 has gone down the drain. if you find a 2 or 3 year old used set foriginally sold by DDM online, its probably better quality than a brand new set from them!

Hmmm I will have to see how well the ones in my Tahoe hold up they are 6 months old, and the Highs in my truck are about 6 months old. I have heard bad things about there shipping and customer service, but i never had a problem.
6spdg37s Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 i got about 10 ddm kits so far so good ... got low/hi in my bike, had low in my dads beemer until he just got rid of it , had em in my 750Li fogs, g37s, TL-s, then got all my boys sets for their streetbikes for xmas as far as all your questions tho .. some car companies jsut design projectors in the design even if they are not doing Xenons. it suppsosidly helps focus the light better i think ? find you bulb type... order the kit for that bulb type i would order the 35 watt kit so you dont fry your stock harnesses/wires use sylvania bulb finder to find your bulb if you dont know it
bigaudiofanatic Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 I bought mine at a car show in PA, loved them! They were plug and play and never had a problem. I think 6K is where I want to stay. Now doing this for my low beam what can I do other than HID in my high beam to make that a tad brighter? I am thinking Hella's light bulbs.

6spdg37s Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 sylvania makes brighter bulbs as well... definitely stick with a quality bulb for that because some of the cheap "xenon" ones that are not HIDs have melted housings and such cause they run very hot
Jeebalow Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Just because you have projectors does not mean your lights will not glare. The normal halogen bulb has a filament that has it's brightest spot at the center and dimmer toward the edges. The HID bulb has no filament and uses an arc to produce light. This arc is the brightest at the edges where the filament is dimmest. Your projectors were designed for a halogen not an HID. For the best output you could retrofit projectors designed specifically for HIDs into your headlight and have a factory look still. It gets more spendy than $35 but well worth it IMO. I am in process of a very slow retrofit into my 95 silverado. Hidplanet.com is a great place to learn about HIDs. Visit the university section and be prepared for lots and lots of reading and learning!
