Light & pearlized paint.

Question

I have a Chrysler 300C that's Satin Jade Pearl...a nice light green pearl. I'm more interested in maximizing the pearl effect....a nice soft glow rather than high reflectivity...altho' having both is fine if necessary.

Does anyone have any particular products or techniques to recommend to maximize the effect I'm looking for?

I do not have an electric polisher & I recently used Meguiar products to wash, clay, polish seal & wax the car & I'm unhappy with the results. Highly reflective but very little of the pearl effect comes thru'.

Your comments, advice etc are solicited.

Also, I note there are a lot of initials used...shr etc. in the postings.....how do I learn what all these mean so I can follow what's being recommended.

Thanks again. Bill

Welcome to Adam's Forum Bill! :welcomebanner:

The shine comes from the paint being a smooth as possible. The PC (Porter Cable Random Orbital polisher) is the best way to achieve these results. You cannot damage you paint using the PC with Adam's products (unless you drop the polisher on the car!).

The polishes create the smooth surface (aggressive, then fine). Top that with Americana Paste Wax (APW) and you will have a very deep shine. If it is a daily driver, use Machine Super Sealant(MSS) for long lasting protection, and top that with Americana for an amazing shine!

It is all about proper preperation, and product quality to maximize light reflection off your paint. You are in the right place to learn.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful answers, your "welcome" & the list of abbreviations....all much appreciated.

I'm 78 years old & live on a "fixed income" so buying a PC & all the necessary pads, chemicals, etc. is a very significant investment for me. And I'm not sure how often I'd use it after the initial paint correction.

I'd therefore really appreciate it if I could get some recommendations about polishes & pads, techniques, etc I can use by hand to get the best results possible for me.

Thank you very much for your time & efforts.

Hand polishing is very hard and very tiring. I gave up on it pretty quick and I consider myself to be in relatively good shape for a 17 year old. If you really want to try it though, watch this video first. It explains alot. Actually, you should probably watch all of the videos, which are located on the main website under the "videos" tab.

Well no need to work your arm off with hand polishing because it's impossible to take out swirls and scratches by hand. Good thing is revive polish has fillers in it to help mask those imperfections. So you don't have to work it hard just apply it in a cross hatch pattern to get an even coating and wipe it away. Correct me if I'm wrong on that...

I figure instead of buying the kit price it out individually without swirl and haze remover and the Orange Hex Grip Applicator. Replace it with Brilliant Glaze (also masks imperfections) and the Americana Applicator or just leave those off to see if that can save you some money.

Bill, excellent advice here.

SHR will not be effective by hand. No use in wasting your money, shoulders and hands.

Follow the info above, you will learn plenty. After watching the videos, come on back for some clarification.

I for one would like to see some before and after pictures of your paint.

Once you watch the video you'll understand SHR is effective by hand, not as effective as with the machine, but still effective. I'd recommend you don't substitute products from the kit. The kit was put together as it is because the products included in it work best for hand polishing.

I know we have more than a few Canadian members, maybe one of them could help you with the initial polishing ????

Welcome aboard, I think you'll love it here! You shouldn't think of the number of times you'd use the PC, but rather as a hobby that you could use on your car, friends, family, literally anywhere you could think. I actually end up giving family details for birthdays and what have you ;) There is actually also the hand polishing kit, but it's a LOT of work !!

You work predominantly in the clear coat, which when you're done should be significantly more reflective. There's no way with adam's kit to make it less shiny ;) That said, my wife's car (Mini Cooper Black Pearl) came out looking very pearlescent, but there was a lot of reflectivity! I believe that in some of Junkmans car videos he actually shows his daily driver which if i'm not mistaken has metallic paint. The videos will help you!!

No problem Bill! We are always happy to help a fellow detailer!

Yup, you're part of the family now! Ask away, we'll help where ever we can!
