Touchless wash....

Question

Let my brother borrow my car and he told me he took it to a touchless car wash, I'm afraid it messed it up but on the other hand it is touchless. Are they not good to go to? I only wash my car and never let anyone touch it nor drive it, but today was his birthday and he asked to borrow it. Should I be worried? :help:

If its truly touchless then you should be ok, just wash it correctly as soon as you get it back. The only thing I would check are your rims in case it had one of those conveyor rim and tire cleaning things...they will scratch your rims if your tires are low profile.

Thanks, that made me feel better. I sent him a panicking text message asking him if it had any brushes or not.

yeah they are fine as long as it doesnt touch your car at all and the pressure is not way out of specs or something crazy like that...I have ran mine thru them a few times in the winter months.

Just keep in mind its not truly cleaning the car so dont try to detail it afterwords...

Sweet. Yeah I don't expect that, just if I'm not near home where I can take a few hours and do it myself.

Used them twice in my life. The first time it tore the valve stems out of my tires. 15 years later tried one again and it stripped the semigloss black paint out of the side moldings. Touchless never touches my cars or any scratch machine for that matter.

Never will I torture my car by going through any mechanized wash. I always do the two bucket wash myself. In the cold months when I can't do the wash in the garage I go to a hand wash place that does a decent job. I plan to get a PC soon and start practicing.

As others have said, it shouldn't be terrible for your ride if it is truly touchless. Just be aware of 2 things: (1) minus big dirt, it does very little to actually clean your car (see Junkman video) and (2) the cheap, not-PH balance soap will likely degrade your wax at a faster rate

I use coin-ops all winter long and while the soap DOES remove wax over time, it also works well at keeping it relatively clean.

I wouldn't worry one bit about it.

I do this quite often actually to knock the bigger stuff off, then if I'm detailing or need to get it cleaner I'll two bucket method. Coin ops are great for making your car appear clean, just realize they don't really get your car clean.

Winter time I use a coin up to get that road grime off that looks nasty. Then this winter my parents have a heated garage! hello 2 bucket wash in the winter

I use this type during the winter for my truck, does it get it really clean, nope. But it is better than salt and snow all over it.
