Quick bug question...

03z-71

Question

I was detailing my aunts buick SUV yesterday. They leave their vehicles outside all the time, and never a wash or anything really.

I washed my uncles silverado last week and i had to literally was it 3 times before i could try it off for the claybar. Not even a year old with less 15k!

anyway I washed it and scrubbed it real good! Even took out the pressure washer.

So I was gonna clay it anyway so i dried it off and I clayed just the front for a good 30 mins and I still couldn't get it off. I even used up all my DS also.

I had to give up I had already spent 2 extra hours on it than normal. So i just waxed it.

I had to drop it back off and I don't like not getting something clean.

WHAT did i miss that i could try to be prepared for the next one like this

Yes any secrets that i could try to get STUBBORN bugs when pressure washing or claying doesn't do it at all.

Normally the clay can do it! This is the first time I have detailed a car that i couldn't get clean.

I'll be interested to see what the experts here say.

Here in florida we can get bugs baked on pretty well. When I have bad baked on bugs I use an old container of tar-n-bug remover from Gunk being sure to wash it with dawn to remove all the oils after the bug guts are gone.

Will be interested to see what Adam's products will work well for this application though.

APC left to soak, but NOT dry will remove them post haste. DO NOT let APC dry on the paint.

If washing and claying isn't removing them, then it makes me wonder if the paint isn't just toast. Our Enclave with 101,000+ on it has a bad issue with front end acne. All the steel/metal parts are fine, but the forward facing plastic is TOAST. It looks like it has bugs on it, when in fact it's clean.

Enclave has 52K or so and yeah that is exactly what hers looks like as well

I WAS almost about to spray it with the APC! I was worried about messing up more than helping. Since yall said it though i will do that next time.

They never even wash there cars let alone wax them!

Our Enclave was getting 1000 miles put on it per week for almost two years. Sometimes you just don't have the care to take care of them when racking up miles like that.

Hmmmm...... I know on my car, the previous owner never washed it, so the front end is stained through the clear coat from bugs. There are many spots that no matter how much I wash/clay/polish with SSR won't come out. I've kind of given up and resigned to buying a new front bumper.

Yea if you don't take care of those bugs it can eat through your paint just like eggs.:willy:

I have had the same issue with baked on bugs. They turn to cement. I tried all the methods above except for a tar and bug remover. I never imagined the clay would not remove. After all the other methods above didnt work I used SHR.

The paint was in need of love anyway. I saw a huge improvement most of the bugs removed as well as the paint looked much better. All of the bug "cement" was not completely removed.

This was my girlfriends RAV and I stopped after she repeated over and over not to worry about it.

In the end the SHR helped tremendously but I stopped short.
