since i landed my job as an assistant manager at walmart a year and half ago i noticed that my blood pressure has gone up as well....im 26 and in decent shape...could be better...im 5'11'' and 210....well my wife is getting concerned because i was up to 220 and dropped 10 lbs and my blood pressure stayed the same which is 140 over 100....the beginning of next week i am going to have to go to the doctor to get it checked out....never thought i would have high blood pressure at 26....i know my job has a lot to do with it because most days someone or something gets my blood pressure up and knowing that i could lose my job without any notice if they feel im not meeting their expectations makes me think about my job constantly even on my days off....anybody on here have issues with high blood pressure and if so what have you done to lower it?

I've been dealing with it for over a decade now.

At one point is was bad enough that I was taking both a beta blocker and an ace inhibitor, you will hear those two terms over and over when dealing with BP. Basically they are the two types of BP meds. Eleven years ago, I was at 180/110......... That's stupid high for those that don't know. Medical folks told me to lie down alot.......LOL!

With diet changes, basically all snacks are now an apple, orange, raw carrot etc and regular meals a lot more balanced, I am just on a beta blocker now. It keeps my BP in the 110/70 range and lower.

If you can get away with diet change to bring it down, that is the way to go. If you need a BP med, keep in mind it may take a while to get the med and dosage right for you. At one point they had mine so low, I couldn't even stand up without blacking out.

Do whatever is medically necessary to keep it in check, eat right, and most importantly don't let your job kill you. :2thumbs:

Diet and exercise is your best bet for getting your BP under control.

Look at your caffeine and salt (sodium) intake. Eliminate caffeine and sodium if you haven't already.

Also, take your BP at the same time every day and keep a log. Also take it 3 times and average the results. Your BP will go up if you are anxious. It will also fluctuate throughout the day.

yeah im not a big fan of running cuz my knees already suck

My wife and I are doing P90... Talk about KICK YOUR BUTT!!! :willy:

Joints aren't an issue, but it's 36 minutes out of my day, I get up at 4:20AM, do the workout, sit in front of a fan and cool off and then take shower, make lunch and go to work.

Those 36 minutes are KILLER! You've probably heard of P90X which is the extreme version which is great for those in moderate shape, but I like to start out slow and work my way up, instead of going all in. P90 still kicks my butt!

It's 60 bucks for the DVD set. Buy it and try it. You will lose weight and I'd bet, be a happier person for it.

We are the same age and I know lots of people my age with high blood pressure, and most of them are very physically fit, so i can hapen to anyone. One of my best friends who was in great shape, ran and worked out every day, did some form of martial arts found out he had high blood pressure when he was 17.

Your job probably does not help to much. I dont think most people dont realize how much stress managing a retail store can be. Managing restaurants or retail can be just as stressfull as the most stressfull jobs like Firefighters, Doctors, and Nurses. I managed restaurants for years and I dont have high blood pressure, but i ended up with Ulcers at age 22. I dont have to deal with that kinda stress anymore, which makes me so happy

Sounds like my BP when I was first diagnosed in the late 90's. Beta blockers worked, but I hated the side effects: drowsiness and palpitations.

I'm now on an ace inhibitor (Benacar) and love it compared to the beta blocker. My doc and I are happy now with consistent readings of 125/75.

The worst for me with the beta blocker was with the lowered heart rate, for about the first two months after I started taking it, I was CONSTANTLY cold. I went for a walk in 35F temps and made it about a 1/4 mile before my feet were frozen. Dose adjustment and my body getting used to it has gotten rid of that problem.
