What do I need?

Question

I just bought a PC and am kinda nervous to use it since I always used hand my entire life but, just doesnt work. Anyways for something like this what would be the best way and what should I use. This is my moms car and figured I would clean it up for her. Would the PC even work for this?

I am a complete rook!

(Also I have never uploaded a pic so sorry if it is huge or messed up)

This would be a good kit! That paint isn't bad at all, FMP and White pad would likely take care of it!:2thumbs:

Welcome to the world of Machine Polishing! Do you have all the pads and products from Adam's as well?

1) Watch the videos...EITHER Adam's or Junkman's

2) See Step 1

3) See Step 2

4) Dive right in and perfect a 2x2 area on the hood FIRST. When you're satisfied, move on to the rest of the car.

What you are showing in the pictures is absolutely correctable using these products.

If you have ANY questions, bounce right on in here and ask.

Thanks a lot for the fast replies, should I start with the severe swirl remover or would the regualr swirl and haze remover work?

Also when applying buttery wax is that by hand or can I use the PC? And when would I apply it? after the fine machine polish?

Like Chris said, by the pictures taken it looks like the white pad and FMP should take care of it. I don't have a machine yet, but these guys would know. It doesn't look that bad. Always use least aggressive first, and perfect a 2 x 2 area on the hood first.

Wax you can apply by hand, there is no correcting going on, so technique really doesn't matter. The waxing is the fun part, goes on and comes off nice and easy. And you would use it after the polish, you don't want to polish your wax, haha.

Welcome, and watch the video's, there great!

I personally think you'll want to use something more aggressive than the fine machine polish for that. I feel the camera isn't picking up the true nature of the swirls due to the settings on the camera and the brightness of the sun. I couldn't even get water spots off of my hood and trunk with fine machine polish in two hits and had to step it up to the swirl and haze remover. This was after I corrected all the swirls and scratches, but foolishly let some hard water dry in these areas.

I certainly understand the reasoning behind using the least aggressive method possible, but I used a wool pad and the most aggressive polish I could find (won't mention any names because they were another brand) on my PC for my correction and each set of that was about equal to 3-4 sets of the green pad and SSR. I usually used 2-3 sets with the wool pad for a full correction. What I'm getting at, is the average factory clear coat can likely take 30 or more sets of the green pad and SSR before even getting close to the base coat. In other words, going with the Swirl and Haze remover and orange pad is still very very mild and is not going to punch through the clear coat anytime soon.

The kit Chris05GTO linked should be perfect for your needs.

PS: I put an offer in on a GTO back in '08. The guy wouldn't come down to my price so I ended up keeping the TA. They're great cars though and I may look to pick up one in the future as my weekend warrior.

Instructional Detailing Videos

This is your way to go. I have said this more than a few times here, but I don't mind saying it again...I was completely new to detailing when I got my Adam's Premium Porter Cable 7424XP Detail Kit last year. I simply followed Volume 6 step for step and never looked back! It isn't as daunting as you would think, because Adam's just makes it easy!
