Kingsford
... My fellow firefighters Before: After: Our tanker was involved in an accident today. 2 of our firefighters are in the hospital. One was Air lifted to a level 1 trauma center in Oak Lawn and the other is our of surgery at a local hospital. If I wouldn't of been held up by a train on my way to the station for the call they went on, I would of been the one driving. I missed the truck by literally 2 seconds. They pulled out as I drove in. OTTO TOWNSHIP — Two firefighters were seriously injured when the fire truck they were driving crashed and overturned Saturday afternoon in Otto Township, about six miles south of Kankakee. An Otto Township Fire Department tanker truck responding to a call was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 45/52 when it collided with a southbound Oldsmobile making a left turn at 7500 S. Road in Kankakee County just after 2 p.m., according to a release from Illinois State Police. After the collision, both vehicles left the road to the right, and the fire truck overturned, police said. The driver of the fire truck, 67-year-old James Turner of Kankakee, was taken to Riverside Medical Center in Bourbonnais, officials said. Another man in the fire truck, 21-year-old David Tiburtini of Kankakee, was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The driver of the Oldsmobile, 27-year-old Amanda M. Collins, was also taken in serious condition to Riverside Medical Center, according to authorities. She was ticketed for not having a valid driver’s license and not having insurance. A State Police investigation determined the fire truck had just passed a southbound truck and was attempting to pass the Oldsmobile when it turned left into the fire truck, which had its lights and sirens activated.
