nightmare at a car wash

Ronnie_B

Question

A friend of mine took his black 2011 Mustang to a local car wash to see about getting overspray removed. he watched them very heavy to make sure everything was being done right, when the car was finished it looked flawless. a couple days later he washed it and all the flaws came out; tons of swirls and the paint almost looked gray instead of black. he said at the end of the time they had the car they went over it real quick with something. i was wondering what could they have put on at the last minute to hide all the flaws, only to come off after the 1st wash?

since he has hed the car back he had a good friend buff it with the cyclo buffer and 3 stepped. it turned out pretty good considering how bad it was but still has some marks in the paint.will the PC and adams polish help get the car nearly perfect?

searching through the adams products, the brillant glaze says it hides minor flaws and imperfections, could this be what they used; a glaze?

sorry for the long read, any help is appreciated.thanks

I have heard of detailers using a "fill n glaze" product. It is one of the tricks of the trade. They polish the car with a rotary... add tons of buffer trails. Then they hide the imperfections with glaze and filler wax.

Similar thing happened to me after I washed my car for the first time since buying it. I noticed a lot of dried on wax all over the car when I bought the car originally. Even the salesman mentioned how bad it looked with all the spots they missed. I thought it was odd that they would take the times to wax all the vehicles. Usually it's just a porter going over it with a power washer or running it through a machine.

After I washed it, swirls were a lot more noticeable. I noticed minor swirls at the dealer which was to be expected. Unfortunately not everyone is an Adam's user.

The thing that really got me upset (That's a nice way of putting it) was there were now buffer trails on the hood that WERE NOT THERE at the time of the purchase.

As I said swirls were to be expected I looked specifically for buffer trails to see if it had ever been in the shop.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in and that probably 90% of the general population will never notice things like this. As long at it's shiny its good to go.

Must have been polished with that greasy goop that washes off. Had it on mine (pre-owned) when I bought it, after it came off and I saw what was going on with the finish, it was time to move to Adams.

Don't cover up the swirls, get a PC setup and polish out those swirls. And that finish will last, won't wash off

So weird I have seen 3 black cars at work that had this happen. I see them every day so I noticed when they were first done, looked good I actually thought they might use Adams. Few days later it was swirl city with a dull look. Wow I was blown away.
