I don't get it.....

Ferrari racecar sells for world record $16.4 million - Aug. 21, 2011

I have no problem with someone parting with $16 mil + of their own $ for a car. What I have a problem with is that this thing will most likely never get taken out for a hot lap. Perhaps the reason I don't have that much disposable income is that, if it were mine, I'd hot lap that car all over the place while smoking a nice cigar!

If it were anything other than the #1 prototype I'd agree, but that car is 'genesis' as far as the ferrari racing program of those decades go, simply too rare/valuable (only 1) to risk it.

Plus, if you've got the money to afford that one, then is probably entirely plausible you could afford one of the track driven cars that was built off of it and hot lap that instead.

Oh yeah, I'm sure whoever bought that has a bunch of nice rides.

While I hear what you are saying, all the while maintaining that it wouldn't be the most prudent thing to do, I'd still drive it!
