Hood not as clear

xlr8rvette

Question

Haven't done anything other than wash the Vette for a few months. Going to Tahoe Thursday and decided to freshen it up a bit. Used revive then Buttery Wax both by hand and on all except hood. After did most of car it was getting dark. Drove up street to spot in evening sun so could still see. Did passenger side with revive then Buttery wax over. As sun was again dissapearing decided to skip the Revive and use Buttery wax only on hood. When returned to garage noticed the light bulb reflection in hood seems not as crisp as rest of car. Used detail spray and still looks not as sharp as rest of Vette. Thought is that tomorrow morning will use BSG on hood. Alternate would be to use Revive over the Buttery Wax then the Buttery Wax. I'm leaning toward using BSG only.

Any ideas?

FYI...although applied Revive and Buttery wax in sunlight Vette was cool as had been in garage all day, washed in shade and sunlight was evening (7 pm on).....Thank you

What color is your vette? I'm watching this post with a lot of interest cause I have the same thing going on with my grabber blue Mustang. It could be you have too many layers of "wax" on it, resulting in some cloudiness. My car has two coats of Americana on it and although it looks dripping wet, my hood seems cloudy or the color a little faded in certain lighting conditions. I don't think anyone but an Adam's fanatic perfectionist like us would notice, but it still bugs me.

Vette is black. I've had cloudyness when Layering Americana but never with Buttery Wax. Also rest of car is crisp and hood is only area I did not apply revive first. I have greatly reduced frequency of applying wax, using BSG more often than use to. As soon as sun comes up will see how it looks and whether or not to apply stuff.

Thank you

You didn't use revive on the hood? If that's the case, then that's why your hood doesn't look as crisp. You freshly polished everywhere else, so its just a LITTLE better than the hood, which was only waxed.

My thoughts are the same as yours. Frankly probably not noticeable to anyone except us OCD Adamizers. The test will be can I leave it alone or do I fuss with it............

Exactly...you're the only one who will probably notice. To confirm our suspicions, use Revive only on half the hood. Then finish it off.

So, would you use Revive "over" the already waxed area or do we need to remove old wax layer(s) first? Personally, I'm waiting a month to do one more detail before winter and I'll clay the car first then polish with FMP, a hand Revive application followed by MSS and Americana.

Personally, I always polish a bare surface. So, an alcohol wipe down or Dawn wash will strip the surface. Double check the need for claying, then continue with the hand polish and finish with the wax of your choice. There no sense in unnecessarily loading up clay or polish pads with wax that needs o be removed anyway.

I'd go with the 50/50 wipe down too, then Revive and BW :2thumbs:
