jpu471
I will be replacing the transmission on my Saab in the next 6 months. My Saab indie has quoted me between 3000. and 3500. Saab has offered me 1000. on the price of a Saab dealer repair, part of a goodwill gesture due to the trans being low mileage. The dealer quoted me 3500. to 4000. So the price is just about a wash. My indie has a good shop and gets rebuilt trans from a place he likes, the dealer gets factory rebuilds. When the trans is out, there is always the possibility of other items needing to be replaced, mounts etc. , however the car is in excellent condition. Especially the paint:). Any opinions on who the work should be done by? Thanks
Z71_Denali
i'm confused. you say saab offered you 1000, and the dealer quoted you 3500-4000... is saab not the dealer? and what is Indie? an outside repair shop?
Marylander
I'd go dealer. I think you'd have more recourse with them if there are other problems down the line.
DaveVY
I used to have a Saab 900SE convertible... loved it! If you have a really good indie shop I would use them, those extra items you mentioned can add up quickly and a good indie shop can find good ways to save you money while doing a great job. Golf for Life
I'm confused. you say saab offered you 1000, and the dealer quoted you 3500-4000... is saab not the dealer? and what is Indie? an outside repair shop? I'm also confused. What is the $ difference between the Saab dealer and the independent shop? Best of luck with the Saab, I'd go with the dealer if it was me. whatevah
the shop said 3000-3500, the dealer was 3500-4000. It sounds to me that if he has the work done at a dealer, Saab will cover $1000 of the bill. I'd go with the dealer, they usually have a better warranty on transmission replacements.
