Question

I am so confused on what products to use for my cars. One is metallic gray(my 2010 truck), one is flat black (wifes 2010 VW EOS) and a 1973 white VW Super Beetle. I have been using Adams for years, always the older products. The newest product I've used is the In and Out (prior to its discontinuation and re-introduction) and the Glass Cleaner. I still have the microfibers towels at least 5-6 years old. With all the new products, I'm overwhelmed! When I detail I use my Portal Cable 7346, and just the Detailing Spray for weekly cleaning.

Can someone please recommend a very good base line of products to use for all three of my cars? My wife's car does have severe swirl and water marks. My truck needs constant cleaning on the wheels due to brake dust.

Thank you!!!

I've seen a lot of those flat black cars in person. M3, SL550, etc and trust me. from one car cleaning person to another, it would drive you nuts. Every one of those flat black paint schemes I've seen show finger prints like CRAZY. the oils show up as shiny finger prints on the flat black. it's worse than chrome. haha.

Also just go jump on what Dylan wrote, for both my dark blue Honda and the black Jeep, for regular maintenace after any corrections are done I just use the buttery wax, but I see a lot of people using the americana as well.

haha Yeah i know ive seen a few at local shows as well, I just think they look so sick, like the new Aventador. It would be great for a show car but for daily driving I agree it would drive me insane haha. Once my jeep's engine goes and I end up building it up I want mine to look like this, this guys my hero haha:36472_406754891626_610066626_4908144_192672_n.jpg

Its all good, I just didn't want to recommend something and have you ruin your paint. But dylan said the same product kit as I so I would trust him ;). Also a little off topic I was kinda hoping that EOS would be matte black, that would look awesome! But you see how fast everyone is here, you ask and you shall receive, I couldn't even type fast enough to be the first one haha.

:iagree: And remember to keep turning your MF towel.

yep! if you use one side too long, the towel gets saturated and just spreads the DS around instead of lifting it off the paint. i generally fold to another side after 2 small panels or one big panel. usually only use 2 towels for an entire car doing that and strategically folding the towel leaving no quarter of it unused.

Thanks Josh, Yes you're correct with the clear coat black. I was wondering how to describe the black finish - I guess I should have stated Non-Metallic. Thanks for the comments. - Dan

Dylan and Ryan,

Thanks for the input. I can't wait to see my wife's eyes when all the products show up to the door! But I'm hoping she'll still bring me a couple of cold ones as I get her car back to show room shine.

Thanks again.

how old is your detail spray?

if you havent bought any in several years, then its probably long passed its shelf life.

the polisher accessory kit Josh is talking about will be a great kit for you to get to bring some life back to your wife's car.

on top of that i would also recommend the Adam's Complete 2 Bucket Car Wash Kit to keep your cars clean and swirl free, the Adam's Perfect Interior Detail Kit for the interior, and finally the Adam's Wheel & Undercarriage Detail Kit for the wheels, tires, and wheel wells. don't forget the microfiber towels either! Adam's Microfiber Detailing Towels & Applicators

Thank you Dylan. Sorry about the confusion. When I say Flat, I mean non-metallic. Swirls, scratches, you name it.

I have the backing velco plate that Adam recommended to me years ago. I only have a white and black pad (again from years ago).

Thats what I was thinking... thought it would be pretty unusual to have a flat finish.

The process on all the vehicles is relatively the same regardless of color... The only wild card of the bunch is the beetle and whether or not its a base/clear paint job or single stage of some sort. Do you happen to know what kind of paint is on the '73?

The outline of the process is pretty simple:

  1. Wash
  2. Clay
  3. Rewash
  4. Dry
  5. SSR / Green Pad (as needed)
  6. SHR / Orange Pad (as needed)
  7. FMP / White Pad
  8. MSS / Gray Pad

Beyond that you have the option of layering on different products, but its not required. That would be a good sound process to get you from flawed to shining and provide good protection for the finish.

Seeing as you already have the white pad, gray pad, & backing plate if theres a kit that includes those, but otherwise suits your needs let me know and we'll customize a kit to meet your need by exchanging some items out.

A good place for you to start might be the Adam's Porter Cable Car Polisher Accessory Kit

You might also find it very helpful to give the videos a look again... the process is outlined in pretty good detail for you there along with the specifics of the process:

Instructional Detailing Videos

I do have another question dealing with the Detailing Spray. Should I spray the microfiber towel then wipe the vehicle or spray the car then whip? There are times I can see "hazing" on the car and have to really use some elbow grease to get the haze to go away. Thank you again!

Dan

Either way is fine. If the paint is cool to the touch its fine to spray onto the paint... if the paint is hot or in direct sunlight its generally a good idea to spray onto the towel first then wipe.

Chris, Yes. I asked Adam a long time ago about spraying directly on the car and I thought he said spray on the towel instead. Honestly I can't remember hence my question. I was wondering if there if one way is better than the other dealing with the "haze". Thanks. Dan

Im not a professional, but but flat black do you mean cleared black paint of literally flat or Matte black paint? I think I remember ready that you are not supposed to take a wheel to flat black paint. I know the pro's will chime in but from what I've seen most start with swirl and haze remover with a few passes and if that doesn't do the trick to head to severe swirl remover. If you have a porter cable Id go with the PC kit since you have used Adams products previously:

Adam's Porter Cable Car Polisher Accessory Kit

Its how I was introduced to Adams and made my car look great!

With that kid includes all PC polishes, sealant, clar bar detail spray, 2 single soft microfibers and the all purpose cleaner. With those vehicles I believe that would be perfect for what you need to achieve already owning a PC. I would also throw in a jar of Americana wax as well, it is amazing and a great top to that product combination.

Anyone feel free to correct me, I was just trying to get here as soon as possible to help a fellow member out :D.

edit-you guys act fast hahah, Almost first
