Reichler Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Spent a few hours last Friday adding a JHP Sport Steering Wheel and their Sports Gauges. Car is ready for the summer...
Chris@Adams Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Real nice Charlie! Those gauges went up in price a good bit didn't they?
Reichler Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 Real nice Charlie! Those gauges went up in price a good bit didn't they? You bet they did! I believe they doubled in price just in the last year or so.
AZGTO Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Looks great! The jhp steering wheels are amazing! One day I will get one! Love the banners
Robert Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Very nice mods, cost on them crazy anymore. Hopefully Spencer will come through for all of us again and make some more great reproduction parts.
Chris@Adams Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Charlie, was your gauges plug & play install?
Dan@Adams Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Chris, all '05 GTO's should be plug and play, since they all have the wiring harness tucked up on the right side of the radio inside the dash and the JHP gauges plug right into that harness. You do have to trim a bit of a plastic brace inside the dash for the pod to fit perfectly. 2006 GTO's up until mid-February build date had the harness (when they apparently ran out of them on the assembly line). 2004's don't have the harness at all and require a separate kit to wire in the gauges. I got lucky and my '06 is a January build date. I also got the gauges for a steal of $250 from a guy that was trading in his impulse blue goat on a stryker blue G8. I think the gauges are well over $600 now from JHP To the OP: both the steering wheel and gauges look great. I want the HSV style wheel like you have, but I might be going with the new wheel design that Kyne is working on over at ls1gto
MichiganSRT8 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 very nice additions sir! Im a big fan of those banners, whered you pic em up?
Reichler Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 Yup as Dan said. My 06 was built in April 06, so no wiring harness. I also did not want to patch into the cluster harness and luckily found a thread over on ls1gto outlining an alternate install method. I crimped on a spade connector to the end of the ground wire and secured it beneath a steering column bolt. I then landed one of the wires to the rear of the OBDII port and the remaining wires to the fuse panel. I zip-tied the wires at 2 locations on the bottom of the steering column for a clean install. You can't see the wires once I re-installed the kick panel. As far as the banners? The GTO side emblem badge was on ebay. The 04 GTO poster was something I picked up at the NYC Autoshow back in early 2004 when the GTO came out and right before I purchased my first GTO (2004 IBM).
BRZN Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Saw these pieces in person yesterday: nice install on the guages for sure, the wheel is an awesome piece!
