Blacked Out the trim on the MINI

I finally tackled a project ive been wanting to do for some time now. Why i didnt do it when i tinted the windows i dont know. What a difference. Mini puts this stupid chrome strip between the windows and paint, Did something about it :D

Sometime soon will be the door handles, gotta get brave enough to tear apart the door panels.

To bad they shorted me by 3 1/2 feet so i cant finish the strip between the hood and windshield.

Thanks guys! I cannot believe I waited this long to do it. I just read an article that the 2013 models will have the option to be ordered in either chrome or black.

Oh that looks way better. What did you use?

Its 3M automotive Vinyl cut to fit the Mini. To say this is a PITA to install would be an understatement. Took me close to 3 1/2 hours to do, the worst part was pulling the clear plastic cover off the top once it was adhered.

Its not easy to stick, especially on round curves. I have a good 2 hours ahead of me to do the strip between the windshield and hood because of the sharp rounded edges. Im thinking once i receive the next batch taking it to my guy that does my vehicle lettering and paying him in Beer to do it for me :lolsmack:

Brendon, how did you put it on? Did you heat up the vinyl with a hair dryer first? It tends to be more plyable and go around curves that way. I have a lot of 3M DiNoc on my car and I understand you frusterations putting it on.

Clearly I'm a fan of murdered out black cars ;-)

Looks awesome man, the before pictures just look out of place, what were they thinking?

Did you consider using plasti-Dip on the chrome? I bet that would have been 10x faster!

ive got the blackout fever again :D

tell me about it!!

Every time I even slightly think about going a different route, it doesn't take long before I fall back in love with the blacked out.

With that said, I'm really thinking of changing it up for summer/start of college. Fresh start kind of thing.

Your trim looks great, I personally heard horror stories of the pain of putting vinyl on the trim, so I just gloss plastidipped and called it a day. No complaints here.

Thanks, If i knew what i know now i wouldnt have done the tape, just would have masked it all off and plastidiped it. In the long run it probably would have been quicker. im 85% on the vinyl, of course im the installer so i know all the goof ups and were i feel it should be redone.

this is always the best and the worst thing.

You know the spots you need to fix, do over, etc, but at the same time you know the spots that you can't redo, and ultimately these are the ones that stare you in the face every time you look at it! Haha

But to others, it looks great.

Did you do all of the green accents yourself? Mirrors, calipers, etc.? I've been playing with this idea for a while and then when I first joined this forum your car was the first thing I noticed.

haha thanks man! the only thing i didnt do were the mirrors. Those mirror caps are from the 2009 clubman rally eddition, ever since i saw that car i thought to my self that i could make a better, more tasteful one (not to sound cocky). The rally edition was too weird and out there for me.

So, When i ordered the mini i was able to have the dealer order "replacement" caps for a rally eddition and put them on at delivery. The calipers, and tow hook were me though along with different rims, they are OEM "aftermarket"

She shure gets the stairs from people on the road or in the parking lot, and because shes debadged everyone always asks what it is. I have had some older clients of mine that seen the car not realize it was mine and stick there foots in their mouths when they say "who would put green mirrors on that thing" and then its always fun watching them try and weasel out of the comment when i tell them its mine

The only thing i havent got out of all those stairs was a hot chicks number :lolsmack:

How did you get such a good match on the color for the different pieces? It's such a rare color I would think that would be hard. I sure get looks on my murdered merc that's for sure. I think some Lamborghini lime green calipers would make it pop. I'm getting matte black bbs lms's too! It'll make me happy for a while until another idea pops in my head haha
